When Can we expect the successor of the MultimediaStation2 ?

Postby doubleyoup » Wed Dec 17, 2008 4:46 pm

Hi QNAP Team

For me one of the most usefull functions of the NAS is its Fotoalbum.
I like it to just put my new pictures on my TS-209 and the rest is done by the machine.
But there are a lot of missing features i would like to use, other php freeware etc. is no alternative because you have to hold the pictures redundand in an extra folder and Apps with SQL DB are way to slow on my TS-209.

So now my Question:

Is there already a plan for developing the Multimedia Station 3 and when can we expect it ?

Usefull features would be:

- More Flexible and of course better looking Slideshow Player
- Multiple File Up-/Download
- Customizable Theme
- Enhanced User Management
- Online Videoplayer for example to play .flv files with auto file conversion
- Send Pictures per email from MMS

So QNAP Team, keep on working on this very good Product !

Best Regards

I just bought a 409, and I have to say that MultimediaStation is **. I'm saying this in the nicest way possible, and I'm sure QNAP knows this. If I'd known beforehand I'd have gone to Synology (at least for this aspect).

QNAP ... please tell us that there is a proper MultimediaStation coming out that has streaming of rich media (ie. video and/or audio) over the internet. I thought that was what I was getting ... my fault perhaps .. and I can only say that I feel very disappointed. I'm looking for a solution, but in the meantime I've had to tell two other people at work to give Synology serious consideration before going to QNAP. I don't like having to recommend Synology since I have QNAP, so would you PLEASE get a decent piece of software in place?

Thank you ...

I already have advised several friends to buy Synology instead of Qnap. This because of the poor functionality of multimediastaton versus Synology's photostation. They're happy know. I am not.

Glad thoughdthat automatic Ip blocking is finally available in the beta release. Synology had that ages ago.

Excuse me for being so critical, but can't help being a little disappointed.

best regards

A discussion based on arguments would be appreciated....

Not this kind of reactions

Look - I'm not a Synology cheerleader (or apparently a QNAP one) but the multimedia application by ANY MEASURE is lacking significantly. There is no question.

I'm happy with my QNAP hardware, but extremely disappointed by this software. The beta firmware is a major improvement, but still beta, and the multimedia application upgrade THAT INCLUDES VIDEO is far overdue. This isn't a question of catching up here or there - QNAP have completely dropped the ball on this application. I'd like NOTHING MORE than for them to announce a new piece of software for this (find an open source product that they can put into an install or something) or an upgrade ... this multimedia station is horrible.

I'll stand my ground on this point.

Well, i asked about 1 year ago about improvements with the online photoalbum, nothing happend so in my consequence i sold my ts-209 and made a step up to the ds-209+ from synology and i have to say that it fits my needs much better...

QNap Hardware is awseome, but the software development is way to slow...

Maybe the next time

I bought my first QNAP 1,5 years ago, and when I said QNAP team that multimedia station was awfull, they said that they will make a new version to correct this problem. This was 1,5 years ago and nothings comes !

It would be nice if these were not empty promises, and if QNAP have actually been working away at a replacement.

QNAP? We know you monitor the forums. How about telling us where you are on this? We'd all appreciate an update.
