Quota for Multimedia Station users

Postby rentdem » Sat Jul 14, 2012 12:45 pm

Hi, I just set up my QNAP 219P-II running firmware 3.7.1 Build 20120615. I activated the Multimedia Station and adding some users to it using the web interface. But is it possible to set the quota differently for each user for uploading to the Multimedia Station? I tried creating the users with the same names in the QNAP main admin page but that don't seem to have any effect (I guess they are really 2 different things even tho the user names are the same ...). Thanks in advance!

Currrent design and implementation does not allow that - the files ownership of the stations-uploaded files are not mapped to the Linux accounts - so user-based quotas can't be etablished here.

Afraid, I'm highly disappointed QNAP has still not changed this long-standing problem - and has added even more Stations on this outdated and brainless design - ridiculous to implement dedicaed user management in the time of single-sign-on...

Thanks for the quick reply. No wonder then. I also found this implementation a bit strange as having 2 sets of accounts cause a bit of overhead. Also should I assume in the Multimedia Station, folder permission can only be applied at the top level? E.g. If I have 2 folders "Multimedia\photos\public" and "Multimedia\photos\private", I can only apply permission to the "Multimedia\photos" folder, but not the 2 underneath it.

'coz the NAS admin site itself seems to be able to do this. Just wondering.

I like being able to create "virtual users". ie Users that exist in the xxxxxx Stations, but that do not have shell access. I wish it would use "Local Users" as defined in the NAS plus allow virtual users.
