Replicate/Sync QNAP Folder to a Windows Shared Folder in a Domain

Post by Comtec Group »

Hi,

I have the techie basics but im a newbie to QNAP, the issue I have is....

We need a cloud facility that runs on our internal network to enable our external sales users out on the road to be able to sync there laptops, ipads and mobiles using QSYNC & QFILE to one folder on the QNAP device, all this works perfectly well however....

I need to be able to replicate/sync the users QSync folder with a windows shared folder, on windows server 2012 R2 in a domain environment.
(User wont be editing files in this windows shared folder, its just a backup areas outside the QNAP)

My Setup:
Device = TVS-471U
Ram = 32GB
HD = 4x 6TB WD RED
Firmware = 4.2.0 (as of 10/02/2016)
QNAP is connected to the domain (i.e. I login using... username\domain)
I have a shared qsync folder with full permissions (i can sync my laptop, ipad and mobile all okay)
I have setup internal DNS on the domain which point to the QNAP = cloud.domain.com --> 192.168.0.1 (internal IP given is an example)
I have setup public DNS on the internet which point to my public IP = cloud.domain.com --> 8.8.8.8 (public IP given is an example)

How do I replicate/sync a qsync folder with a windows shared folder on a server.

Thanks in advance and any help is really grateful.

Thanks
Trevor

***NOT TESTED***

I think the way to do it would be to use the Windows box to script the sync to the QNAP box.

WINDOWS
*Create shared folder
*assign permissions to QNAP
*create a drive map to the QNAP public share
*script an xcopy32 <win-share> to <qnap-share>
*create a job that runs every 5/10/30/60 mins (dependant on the data type/size)

QNAP
*create public share and assign permissions
*ensure can sync with clients

I've never used the QSync app, but iirc from the documentation, it won't pull from SMB/CIFS shares, only push. It will pull from other QNAP boxes though....? Could be wrong with that though.
