2-way sync/ RReplication

Postby njarvisto » Tue May 29, 2012 10:02 am

Hi,

im hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction here... I have two offices and wanting to hold a local copy of the data (rather than downloading each file when opened as they can range up to 15mb for each file).

Can I;
1. Remote 2-way sync to a remote NAS [Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo]. If it must be another QNAP ill buy a second one...
2. Will the remote sync recognise any data that has changed on the remote end & 'pull' the data for the newest version?

Cheers
Nic

There is no 2-way sync included. The technical and administrative challenges with such a solution aren't insignificant.

Depending on specific circumstances, 1-way sync used with more or less creative schedules can often be a solution.

There is a third party software (Unison) that claims to offer 2-way sync. I'm not a user so I can't explain about all the things the marketing fails to tell you. Installing Unison will not be simple so unless you're quite technical and have Linux experience I wouldn't recommend it.

The question have been asked and answered many times before so search the forum for other insights.
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!
