RTRR cannot synchronize root folder

Postby lzep1968 » Wed Jun 27, 2012 12:54 pm

Hi all,

I'm using RTRR to synchronize the contents of a remote FTP server to my local 419+ QNAP NAS. The root directory of the FTP server I am connecting to has hundreds of files in it, and I want to synchronize the entire root directory to my local NAS directory.

Unfortunately, you cannot select the root directory of a remote FTP replication partner. You have to select a directory. Which is silly.

I tried to manually edit the /etc/qsync/qsync.conf file, but it doesn't seem to allow the root directory there either.

Any help, QNAP geniuses?

Thanks.

Hi,

Why do you try to modify the QNAP configuration. Looks like the issue is on the ftp side isn't it? Maybe the easiest way would be to put all the files in one folder on the ftp server...

cheers

Hi sbresin, thanks for the reply...

I try to modify the QNAP configuration because it's not doing something that I would consider pretty basic for a replication program.

And as to your recommendation, I do not have access rights to the remote directory that I want to synchronize with. Many times you will not have access to the remote directory. For instance, if I want to replicate a remote Linux ISO mirror, for instance.

Just seems to be silly to me that it forces you to choose a directory under root instead of root being an option.

Yes, it is - the GUI is to restrictive. Manually editing the config should allow a workaround.

Ok understand what you mean to do. Additionnally the the GUI has many other silly restrictions, such as limiting to 5 the number of folder to be backed up per job for example

Well, true. Sorry, I'm not QNAP ... but trying hard to bring things ahead.

+1 for more flexibility in the GUI :

1 - Ability to use root as source
2 - Ability to select "include subfolders"

Thanks !
