Corrupted /etc/config/rsync_schedule.conf

Post by ajft »

We've got 11 QNAP units, all except one are running 3.7.3 (unable to update since the bugs we found in 3.8.x and 4.0.x caused more problems)

Each of the QNAPs has somewhere from one to ten remote replication rsync jobs, backing up to a central rsync server. They've been running for years, on various revisions of firmware/

Periodically one or two of the jobs fail all their retries -- it's happened on three (possibly four) of the units -- but then something in the QNAP completely destroys the configuration file /etc/config/rsync_schedule.conf -- it ends up almost completely empty, containing only a subset of the lines, and critically, DELETING the source and destination information!

(the design decision to have a configurations file rewritten after every job to include the last run date is dubious in my opinion, far better to have a configuration file that is *only* updated by the administrator and then keep the runtime info. in a separate data file)

Is there any known fixes or workarounds for this?

I'm gone from this forum till QNAP stop wasting volunteers' time. Get help from QNAP helpdesk instead.
Warning: offensive signature and materials damaging QNAP reputation follow:
QNAP's FW security issues
QNAP's hardware compatibility list madness
QNAP's new logo competition
Dear QNAP, kindly fire your clueless incompetent forum "admin" And while at it, don't forget the webmaster!

Have reported any of the other issues here or to QNAP?

The subject reads to me like a duplicate from back 2012...
