Basic rSnapshot share

QNAp could provide a very basic "Snapshot" share, that can be set up in a few clicks.

Users would need only select what shares should be included, and how long snapshots would be retained

Using rSnapshot as the backend, 4 retention periods could be offered:

7 days: Translates to rSnapshot "daily 7"
4 weeks: "daily 7, weekly 4"
12 months: "daily 7, weekly 4, monthly 12"
And then maybe 4 years: ""daily 7, weekly 4, monthly 12, yearly 4"

The time that the snapshot is run should probably be adjustable.

More advanced rSnapshot could then be taken up by the user, if desired, using this users contributed qpkg:

I have an Snapshot share on my QNAP (3 of them).

On one device, I use only 7 days of Snapshot: The device serves virtual machine images and software, and a 7day backup provides peace of mind against accidental VM changes or software deletions.

Kinda beats the Network Recycle Bin, given the Network Recycle Bin's biggest flaw: It must be wide open to all users

I'm running RDiff-Backup to accomplish the same idea - incremental backups of all the shares on the NAS.

This is definitely an AWESOME feature as disk space and central file storage comes more and more to the NAS. Time Machine on the Mac is really handy for file changes or deletions over time.

I also vote for something like rsnapshot integrated in the out-of-the-box distribution. It would be nice to have a .snapshot in each Folder like NetApp does.

Since I'm using rsnapshot already I would like to see that the webinterface (Resource Monitor -> Disk Usage) calculates hard-links correctly. I've 2TB installed. Disk Usage tells me I've 1.3TB for the /Backup-Share, 0,9TB for /Video 0,1TB for Pictures and others and 0,4TB Free Space. So I must have 2,7TB disks...
