Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
Hi QNAP,
I know there is a hack to add a usb bluetooth dongle to the QNAP NAS, but it would be nice if the driver was included in the package formally.
I, and I think a lot of people would like to use their NAS for simple data logging activities (like that of my solar system which links to an SMA bluetooth radio) since it is online all the time.
Could you PLEASE include a driver (or two) for some common (long range) bluetooth dongles that people like me, could make use of?
Thanks!
PS: Sorry if this isn't the correct forum, I was not sure where else to post it!

Re: Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
Hi Matthew
I'm currently logging my SMA Sunny boy 4000TL solar inverter via my PC and uploading to PVOutput.
I would like to switch this logging task to my QNAP TS-410 as it is always on-line.
I see from your post that you are somewhere down the track on this idea, including finding a bluetooth driver install hack for the QNAP.
I would appreciate any hints & useful links you may be able to provide me with to get started with this task.
Also, do you know if QNAP have implemented any Bluetooth diver support yet? The USB bluetooth dongle I intend to use is a Parani UD100.
Thanks
John

Re: Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
Same here, I would like to get the data from my SMA 2100TL. I've seen some 'howto's' for an ARM equiped NAS, these are good sources of information but I've got TS-439 so I need x86 bluetooth libraries... Please Qnap, provide us with a good bluetooth stack...

Hi John,
I have a TS-409Pro and just ordered a PV system with 4000TL. I'm very interested to hear about your complete solution.
Kind Regards,
Ewout.

Re: Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
A friend pointed me to this website. Haven't tried it. Is it any use?
http://www.on4akh.be/Bluetooth-Qnap.html
In addition to the Bluetooth solution it also describes an SMA reader tool feeding into MySQL and a PHP front-end to display the data (other page on the same website).

Re: Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
Hi Ewout,
I've tried that website, but it appears not to working for my kernel version 2.6.33.2 (firmware 3.7.1). But until know I've not get the bluetooth dongle to work. It is only seen with the comment "lsusb". But when using the "hcitool dev" from the ipkg bluez2-utils-2.25-6, no hci devices are found. And when using "hcitool scan", I even get an error stating that the Address family is not supported by protocol.
Anybody ideas how to get it working?
Thanx

Hi Antoine,
To be honest, I haven't embarked on trying this myself yet.
Kind Regards,
Ewout.

Re: Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
Hi all,
Good to see there a more people interested in the same functionality. For me it's required for a BT link to a SMA SB4000TL solar inverter.
The information on http://www.on4akh.be/Bluetooth-Qnap.html looked good, nicely written out for a Linux noob like me. However, as stated before, it does not work.
The problem for me occured installing the dbus_1.2.16-1_arm.ipk package. Error message: 'Package dbus md5sum mismatch.'
I'll try to get it sorted. If i succeed I will post!

Re: Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
I'd like to use a bluetooth dongle to detect presence of people in the house (to you inferred by whether their mobile phone is within range or not). This could trigger home automation rules on the house, and Tasker events on the Android side.
There are other ways for Tasker to infer that it is in the house, but most of them use much more battery power than bluetooth.

Re: Bluetooth Dongle support added for data logging
I would really like to see some official BT support as well. I am looking for my QNAP to function as a datalogger from my two SMA inverters (SB 3000-TL21)
