Split-View File Manager like Norton Commander

Postby Di4 » Fri Oct 14, 2011 2:20 am

Hello,
when using the file manager it would be great to see source and destination directory together, without scrolling up und down the tree.

As long as the QNAP GUI doesn't support multiple open windows, this may be a split view like the good old Norton Commander and its followers.

A minimum solution would be to add a Linux-tool like Midnight Commander for the command line.

What do you think?

You can add Midnight Commander through installing the Optware qpgk and then issue the following commands;

Code: Select all
ipkg update
ipkg install mc

Thank you, forkless!
It's quite puristic (black/white, reduced length of file names), but it does what I need to. :-)

For the midterm future, I would be grateful if QNAP would offer a GUI solution via the web interface - either two windows openable or one with a split-pane.

Your terminal application is in "application" mode rather than "cursor" mode, check the documentation on your terminal program, to figure out how to get your arrow keys working properly.

Use the arrow keys to move up and down, use 'tab' to switch between windows.
