ALL BACKUP LOST *(disk uninitialized)
I inserted my backup disk inside a deltaco usb dock. Connected it to the front of the qnap and qnap repartitioned it , i even tried another disk and same thing happened. So how do i recover all my things? Before the qnap ts 253 went to service the other back up disk also was deleted but i thought maybe i put it inside the unit which i understand now i did not do.
The unit went for repair and for some months i did not have the energy to fix this but today i had and of course 2nd disk was deleted and partitioned. so now i have 2 disks that was destroyed sincei bought this new nas. Does it think this dock is an extension or what?

Re: ALL BACKUP LOST
Some more details would be nice. A fully scratch configured NAS, with HDD installed, and operational?
Google returns Deltaco as a Mexican style American restaurant.
What USB dock (make, model, chipset, ...) do we face here?
With the unit plugged, what shows
[~] # lsusb -v
...
[~] # mount
...
[~] # df
...
[~]# cat /proc/mdstat
...
Very, very, very unlikely.erpan wrote:I inserted my backup disk inside a deltaco usb dock. Connected it to the front of the qnap and qnap repartitioned it , i even tried another disk and same thing happened.

Deltaco is a Swedish distributor with some (mostly cheap) equipment under their own brand.
@erpan, please respond with the information requested by schumaku.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!
A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.
All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

Re: ALL BACKUP LOST
Ok after the first stress moment with a bit of PANIC and after several email to qnap to no avail, i login to my qnap and notice it says uninitialized.
So luckily i still have my 259 pro, so i connect it back to my qnap 259 pro and then the disk is ready and visible in the external dock, so now I'm copying from nas to nas.
But i still wonder why the new 253pro is not able to read the disk in the external dock when 259 pro can do it .253 pro will see NTFS in that docking station, so i wonder is there some new hidden settings to make it work with EXT or is it a firmware problem, or is it meant to function like this now a days?

We can't even attempt to answer these questions without the output previously requested by schumaku actually provided:erpan wrote:Ok after the first stress moment with a bit of PANIC and after several email to qnap to no avail, i login to my qnap and notice it says uninitialized.

Re: ALL BACKUP LOST
So what you are saying basically is that this info is needed to know why i can't access an external EXT disk in my 253 pro when it works fine now in 259 pro?
Both 253 pro and 259 pro is up running and can login to them just fine.
Right now its backing up from 259 pro so can't connect it to 253 pro right now, but will be able to do that later when backup has finished.
With the unit plugged, what shows
[~] # lsusb -v
...
[~] # mount
...
[~] # df

[~]# cat /proc/mdstat

Yes.erpan wrote:So what you are saying basically is that this info is needed to know why i can't access an external EXT disk in my 253 pro when it works fine now in 259 pro?
1. Since it should work on both NASes, troubleshooting is required to find out why it doesn't.
2. Assisting remotely and blind with troubleshooting requires the onsite person to provide the requested information to the remote person(s) actually doing the troubleshooting.

Re: ALL BACKUP LOST
Ok done.
Just be aware it works on 259 pro but says uninitialized in 253 pro. And ntfs works in 253 pro with that docking station.

Re: ALL BACKUP LOST *(disk uninitialized)
In 4 days i expected someone to have an answer, so i think I found the problem and that it might be a QNAP ISSUE regarding USB3.
UNRECOGNIZED: 06 30 00 00 02 00
can't get hub descriptor: Broken pipe
It also seem to affect HS-251 as its in his logs too.

How he solved it:
Hi All,
I thought I would post back to let you know the outcome of this. Turns out that USB 3.0 hub support wasn't merged into the Linux kernel until 2.6.39. Only the USB 2.0 part of the USB 3.0 hub will be working in kernels before that version. That was according to the Linux USB developer, Sarah Sharp. I updated the kernel to 2.6.39 and low and behold, it worked.
Just thought you'd like to know.
Thanks,
Equinn

Re: ALL BACKUP LOST *(disk uninitialized)
Thank-you for sharing. I learned something. I didn't think it would be a kernel issue, as my kernel is quite different than yours:erpan wrote:In 4 days i expected someone to have an answer, so i think I found the problem and that it might be a QNAP ISSUE regarding USB3.

Do you see similar to this in your logs with your different system?
UNRECOGNIZED: 06 30 00 00 02 00
can't get hub descriptor: Broken pipe

I'm in the market for a USB3 docking station that also is able to clone hdds. Do you know if the Deltaco device is working on QTS 4.2.0?erpan wrote:DELTACO MAP-GD35U3
