ts 509 pro bay2 problem

Postby duby » Thu Apr 23, 2009 3:38 pm

the harddisk in bay 2 dropped out with a readwrite error.although the
disk is ok to rebuild the raid 1 (bay 2 and 3) is impossible, the disk
would work in bay 1,it seems bay two is not working proberly,is this a
hardwarebug or possible to solve this with software?
i hope its not the known bay2problem and i have to exchange my qnap
the qnap was running for 3 mounth without problems.
firmware 2.1.1 (0122T)
the disks WD1002FBYS-01A6B03.0 931.51

thanks for any advice:) duby

The hw issue of the TS-509 caused it to report 'drive ejected' which is something else than the readwrite error you mention, so it might be something else.
Your setup isn't very clear. You have Bay1 as single disk and Bay2/3/4 in RAID?
Did you give the drive a full test? can you put in another disk in Bay2 and see if it still happens?

my set up raid1 (bay 2,bay3) and another functional raid1 (bay4,bay5),the one raid is broken with bay2,bay3,the disk is ok,i did the test with the WD-software.also when i put it in bay 1,it could run as a single disk,or i could make a new raid with bay1and bay3,but this would not solve the baytwo issue.i hope now my question is clear, thx duby

Do you have a drive thats on the approved hardware list? I had a 2 drives that poped out on my 509 (using all bays).....they were not on the list. After replacing them with checked drives it worked like a char. I do have a Q35 connected via eSATA that popped out every now and than, it checked out that the drive was not on the list to and after switching to a compatible drive it worked there to. Try it if you have the oppurtunity.

that was the solution for my problem,(after the firmeware upgrade to v2.1.5 0408)

Besides, when the HDD is shown with read/write error, please click the [Scan Now] button. If the HDD is really OK, when the scan complete, the Status should be back to ready.
after that everthing went to work:),thanks for all help duby

I wanted to say that people getting read/write errors are not experiencing the known issue of ejected drives (imho). But people tend to mix all errors up into one thread, regardless of the cause of their problem.

Same here!
But QNAP will not change the complete device. Only the mainboard will be swapped. I sent in my TS-509 yesterday... :|
