I can confirm update has fixed my 419+. It would begin stalling with about 400Gb to go (4x2Tb in raid5). I have now been using it with only 27Gb space left, and its noticeable slow to write (that will be fragmentation), but performance is acceptable given 27Gb free from 5.5TB.

I have tested it both with 45,000 video files to full it up and (separately) millions of small user type files to fill it up, right now its in production with a mix.
Well done QNAP, I am happy and will now start updating client units.

I emailed Qnap support and they sent me some king of diagnostic program to install on the 412, I ran it and sent them the logs. Support have said its a bad drive in bay 2 thats causing my problems. My second 412 arrived and I have installed 4 3TB WD Caviar RED drives (on the approved list), ( I was going to get the 4TB Hitachi H31K40003272SW) but dabs tell me they are discontinued. So now I am going to move all the data from qnap 1 to qnap 2, this should be a fair test. If the second one does not slow down and grind to a halt, its the drive.

I'm having the same problem on a brand new 669 with 6 Seagate ST2000DM001 drives. I'm running Raid 5 + one spare. When I copy large files, I can see network traffic stop completely for 30 seconds and then start again. Sometimes it gets so bad, that the Share goes offline for a few seconds.

It's a new unit (669 with 3.7.3 Build 20120801). It's ~8TB with 99% free. Any ideas?

Does it only happen the first time after a boot or is it more often then that? Do you have the latest firmware, you need 3.7.1 or later.

It happens all the time, mostly when the file finished being copied. The network utilization goes to 0 for 30 seconds and then it continues with other files. Yes I'm using the latest firmware 3.7.3.

I just installed the unit today and I'm copying my files over.

Considering that the most apparent detail about the problem discussed here is that it only happens at some kind of higher fill level, your problem is most likely not on topic in this thread.

My first guess would be that your network is misconfigured. Open a new thread and tell us your Qnap network configuration details, what it is connected to and how you copy.
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

This is quite different to the issue I was having (stalls before a file started to copy). I wonder if it's the tool you're using to copy the files. Have you tried FileZilla - that's what I used when initially populating my Qnap, and it would move directly on to the next file each time (and that was with a much older firmware). If you'd rather just drag and drop try using TeraCopy (it's much better than the copy built into Windows).

Sorry I can't help you but only give the advice not to play with firmware up-or downgrades. For me 3.7.3 is stable and I've never read about that major file system bug since 3.7.x.

@esee: Then looking over your post, it appears there is a problem since the begining. As you NAS is new, and most likely ways off from the disk usage where the allocation starts to take massive CPU load - that was the file system issue fixed a long time ago now - your issue can not be related at all.

What HDD make, model, and firmware installed in your NAS please?

Already chcked the Kernel output for any suspect messages?

maybe due to windows mirror on samba ,after I killed explorer comes

there was report on WD30EZRX used OK as single disk ,even raid0 , anyhow qnap should not refuse it
by the way is there any contradiction due to some of the process ? thoses processes related service I stopped in IE, but still running while checked with ps
