Restart Schedule Startup Bug?

Postby Rojost » Wed Feb 22, 2012 7:12 pm

Hello,

First of all I wanted to say that I love my NAS :) also I've tried searching for this issue elsewhere on the forum and whilst I can find some references to vaguely similar things nobody seems to have posted about this and I was wondering if its just me having this problem.

My NAS: 219P+ with 2x 3Tb disks mirrored, latest firmware

It is used to store multimedia files that are accessed (via SMB or NFS) from various devices around my home: Sonos / Popcornhour / Laptop(s) etc etc

To keep things running as well as possible I setup a weekly restart schedule but I kept on finding that after the scheduled restart time some devices were unable to access the NAS (whilst others were fine) until it was manually restarted.

Eventually I tracked this further down so that I can say it seems to be those devices that access the NAS via NFS were unable to connect after a scheduled reboot but devices that used SMB were fine.

All devices are able to access the NAS properly if I perform a manual restart.

Is there a problem with the scheduled restart compared to a manual restart?

Have I missed something?

The latest firmware (3.6) was applied recently and as yet I haven't been through a scheduled restart with this firmware - I'll set this to restart on a schedule for tonight and edit this topic if it makes a difference.

Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks,

Rob

It may be fixed in 3.6 according to this thread.

No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

That thread was an interesting read (beyond me technically as I'm no linux expert) but it looks like the author has reposted saying that even with firmware 3.6 his problem has recurred.

I'll go ahead and conduct some tests with 3.6 tonight.

A bit off topic but I am looking for a compact 5.1 speaker system for movies and music, and noticed to have the Yamaha YSP-2200 in your system - would you recommend it for use with blu ray player/ Sky? Need a nice compact solution :)
thanks
