DHCP Server Setup

Postby tomf » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:29 am

Hi. I just got my first QNAP TS0412U. I'm happy so far.

For networking I set up the second LAN port to be on a private subnet, so I gave it a static IP address of 10.2.4.x.
The prior DHCP server that I was using for this had failed and I would like to use the QNAP to be the DHCP server for this subnet. The problem is that having set it to be a static IP, it does not give me the DHCP option any longer. If I set the static to receive its IP from DHCP, it goes into a never ending cycle of something but never works.

Any tips on how to get this LAN 2 out of its static IP and set the DHCP server on and use it?

Thanks.

I'm not sure you can have the NAS as the DHCP server and also as a DHCP client. I don't think it will work.

I don't need to have it set as a DHCP client, I was only trying to make a change that would somehow bring back the option to set up the DCHP server.
I currently can't see any option for setting up a DHCP server where it says I should.

I'm not by my nas but I think it is in the Microsoft section. Try reloading the firmware and clearing the. Roaster cache.

Not in the Microsoft section. Can firmware be reloaded without losing any configuration settings?

Sorry. I just checked where it is. It is in the Networking section. If you edit the interface settings you will see a tab for DHCP.

It seems you can only have one DHCP server and only on LAN port 1.

If you don't use the DHCP server at port 1, you could swap the configuration of the two LAN ports. If you choose to do so, don't forget to also switch the Default Gateway used.
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

Too restrictive and not many options. This is why I use dnsmasq for dns and dhcp.

I came to the same conclusion that P3R mentions. It seems that DHCP can only be done on Lan port 1, which I'm currently using as my Public Static IP access. So I was considering switching my public static IP to Lan port 2, and using Lan port 1 as a local subnet DHCP. I won't be able to test this till next week or later.
