Transfer speeds

Postby Foxman50 » Thu Jun 28, 2012 3:51 am

Hi all

Im thinking of replacing my Synology DS212j with the QNAP TS212 (talk about similar names), but before i take the plunge could i get an idea of the upload download transfer speeds for transferring flac files over a gigabit network. On my Synology it only downloads to the NAS at around 10-15mbs which is dead slow, or seems to me anyway. Ive not tested upload from it.

How does this compare to the QNAP??

Synology is configured with two 1Tb drives in Raid 1 EXT4

Thanks in advance

Look at the spec sheet on the 212 as it should tell you the transfer speed. Compare it to the Synology. If they are close in specs then don't expect better performance. You are looking at a low end NAS and they are not speed demons.

Thanks for the reply Don

Will do that, but was hoping for a real world example rather than an imaginary ideal if you was on planet mars on a Sunday kinda of figure, that no doubt is in the specs.

Yes I know real world is different but comparing the models should at least give you an idea if the QNAP is faster. Like I said the 212 is a very low end model. Don't expect a lot.
