Unmounted Raid Volume

Postby dbaps » Tue Jul 03, 2012 10:23 pm

Good Morning,

I have a TS-509 and a TS-859. This is a generalization but for the past couple of years every time a bad restart happens for whatever reason the array comes up unmounted. Yes, I can recover it every time (except once). However this NEVER use to happen. I don't know if it's the firmware, if there's been a change to the way RAID works, or what the issue is...But the fact that I am having this issue on both NAS devices makes me wonder.

I'm also curious how much testing goes into archived QNAP devices when new firmware is released? Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful that I get the benefit of the latest software modifications. It's wonderful...However I'm wondering if this is cause for concern if archived (retired) devices are not being properly tested? I would rather go back to a stable firmware version where all of this isn't a problem for at least one of my NAS boxes.

Anyone else (long time users of Qnap NAS boxes) experiencing similar issues? I don't mean to complain because Qnap support has always been exemplary. However if someone has more precise information instead of my obvious generalizations I would love to hear from them in this thread.

Thanks,
Paul

Knock on wood - all RAID volumes come up perfect, even on the older systems. Ok, less thunderstorms, UPS suppported, and highly reliable power grid overall here.

I would expect to see something going mad while bringing up the RADI volumes - worth checking the Kernel mesages (limited ring buffer # demsg rep. the permanently replicated Kernel messages here, ie. [~] # tail -100 /mnt/HDA_ROOT/.logs/kmsg

Understood - I would become concerned about regulary unmounted RAID volumes at boot time, too.

Thank you. Even though I'm not a expert reading logs, Google is my friend...:) Thanks again.
