TS-509 does not accept new disk ?

Postby manpete » Wed Jul 18, 2012 4:13 am

I am planning to increase my Raid5 volume from 5x1TB to 5x2TB.

So I chose the Expand capacity Button as per the instructions.
Then I replaced disk 5 and later disk 4. That went well and the Raid 5 volume was rebuilt after every swap.

Now I tried to replace disk 1, again as per instructions. I clicked "Expand Capacity".
I clicked "Change Drive 1".
I removed the drive and heard two beeps. I think at this time the red light started flashing and an error message is displayed on the NAS.
I inserted a new drive.

Nothing happened. No beep.

I check the web GUI and it recognizes the drive: It shows the drive type SAMSUNG HD204UI 1AQ1 1863.02 GB in the gui as well as the size and status Ready.

But no beeps.

It also does not rebuild the volume but instead reports "In degraded mode".

What should I do?

Note: The firmware of the disk has been updated as suggested in the compatibility list. In fact, the same thing happened a day before when I tried a Samsung HD203WI.

Had problem like this also..., in my case it was a drive that had already a partition table on it..., cleared partition table and it continued to rebuild

connect the drive to a PC and remove all partitions.
