Can't expand drives on TS419P+

Postby mnhim001 » Sun Jul 22, 2012 1:01 am

Can someone please help me with expanding my QNAP TS-419P+. I have a total of 10TB in my drives, but it only sees 2.7TB total size. I have my QNAP setup for RAID5. Did I do something wrong?

Disk1: 3GB
Disk2: 1GB
Disk3: 3GB
Disk4: 3GB

Before it became 10TB, it was only a 5TB system. Seems like it didn't take the new drives and expanded them. The drives do get recognized in Volume Management. I go to RAID management and click expand, in the next screen my expand is grayed out. The only available buttons are Change and the Back button.

The 1 GB drive in sot #2 is the show-stopper here. In a real RAID, all disk must have the same size. Any additional space can't be used. I don't think you want to make it a 4 * 1 TB RAID.

Swap move the 1 TB HDD to slot 4, and the 3 TB to slsot #2. Then you can expand to the three 3 TB HDD, making the RAID span HDD 1...3 for now.

Use the 1 TB drive as a single HDD volume, or replace it budget and time permitting with a fourth 3 TB drive, so you can expand the RAID again to span HDD 1..4 then.

This is effectively explained in the RAID Management section of the QNAP Turbo NAS User Manual.

Check out the RAID Management section of the QNAP Turbo NAS User Manual for a complete explanation.
