The system is configured as Raid 6. We have the newest QNAP firmware installed (QTS 4.1.0).
We've activated the SMART Rapid Test feature, starting every day at 7am. This test generates very often phantom errors and the drive state remains "abnormal" for the drives. We found out that in all cases the SMART rapid test did not complete, so the QNAP firmware runs into a timeout after 24h and generates this error.
Anyone else who has this problem? Any idea how to solve it?
For the moment it seems that this is a bug in the QNAP firmware. We have checked the following:
- When we run the SMART Rapid test with exactly the same disks on a standard PC running CentOS 7.0, all test finishes reliable after max. 2 minutes as expected
- Running smartctl -t on the QNAP console causes the same problems: The SMART Rapid Tests does sometimes not complete.
- We noted the same erroneous behavour when the TS-469U works in an isolated environment without external network traffic during the whole SMART Rapid Test. So it is not possible that continous disk access during the test causes the problem.
- Even if the test completes, some of the disks takes often much longer than 2 minutes. This is not the case for the same disks everytime, so different disks are affected.
- We have not noted any problems with the "Load Cycle Count" problem as discussed in this forum
- We have checked the compatibility of the drive at http://www.qnap.com/i/en/product_x_grad ... =36&hf=old, the site tells us that the drive is supported: WD WD40EFRX (Red) NAS Drives Compatible TS-469U-SP. Moreover, the QNAP Press Release http://www.qnap.com/en/index.php?sn=845 ... c=&n=20119 announces that WD Red Drives are supported since 09/10/2013.
- We have already started the WD firmware updater
- Please find our error log below.
Thank you!
