[HELP] _thttpd_ zombie processes.

Post by bravo020 »

Hi,

I've noticed with my 409 Turbo, that an incredibly large number of zombie processes for _thttpd_ are spawned. This appears to be as a result of connecting to the NAS via the web gui and the longer that the web interface is used the more zombie processes are generated. Eventually there are so many thousands of zombie processes running that the system can no longer manage logins via the web or via ssh and needs to be restared.

Code: Select all

 1761 admin 1216 S /usr/local/sbin/_thttpd_ -p 8080 -nor -nos -u admin -
 2344 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2346 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2352 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2355 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2357 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2363 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2398 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2405 admin Z [_thttpd_]
 2407 admin Z [_thttpd_]
<snip>
I've seen a number of messages around with potentially similar problems but no solutions.....has anyone encountered this issue and found a solution?

Many thanks for any assistance that anyone can provide.

Regards.

Hello,
The latest firmware v3.1.0 for TS-409 has fixed the bug.
Please upgrade your firmware.

Hi,

Sorry I should have mentioned that I am already running the latest version of the firmware 3.1.0 build 0708T, and the issue remains.

Hi Andy,
1. Your PM said that you've installed quite a few QPKG. After you uninstalled, please reboot the NAS and check.

2. If you're running mySQL, please disable it, reboot your NAS, and try again.

3. If both do not fix your problem, then please contact our tech. support.

Thank you

Thank you for the additional information.

Disabling mySQL and rebooting was not sufficient to resolve the issue.

However, after removing every single QPKG installed, and disabling Web File Manager, Multimedia Station, Download Station, iTunes Service, UPnP Media Server, the Web Server and finally the FTP Service, and then rebooting the device, does appear to have resolved the issue of the _thttp_ zombie processes from being created.

Now of course the next steps will be to gradually reactivate and reinstall components and attempt to identify which is causing the issue.
