[HELP] Re-launch process [apache].

Post by sgatke »

Hello all

My Qnap TS-439 Pro started this morning to spam my mailbox with error logs.
I am getting hundreds of emails like this one:
---
Server Name: QNAP1
IP Address: 10.9.8.11
Date/Time: 11/29/2009 04:32:17
Level: Warning
Re-launch process [apache].
---

I have not reconfigures anything on the Qnap device recently.
I can not access my Joomla website, probably because of this error. I can, however, access the web interface of the Qnap device. I have no clue why this error occurred, and I have no clue on how to fix the error.
I have tried to disable the webserver. This of course stops the error messages :-) But when I restart the service, I get an error in the system log saying:
[Web server] started failed.

Any help to fix this is very much appreciated.
Current firmware version: 3.1.2 Build 1014T

Thanx in advance.

Alright, after troubleshooting with a friend of mine, we discovered that apache.conf was 'wiped' or overwritten. There was only one line: listen 80
After copying a working apache.conf file, the webserver starts with no problems.

Now, the question is: How did this happen?
It started early Sunday morning - around 04.30
Since I was in my bed sleeping like an innocent child :-) at that time, I am guessing that perhaps there is some automatic system maintenance running at that time, that may have gone haywire...
Does anybody know if this could be the case?

Funny, I got the exact same problem this morning... loads of emails with server restarts, but no joy.

[/etc/config/apache] # more apache.conf
User httpdusr
Group everyone
Listen 80

Im running 3.2.0 Build 1107T on a TS-639. Bizzare. I just deactivated the web because I dont use it, but any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hey QNAP,

I just got an early morning call from my colleague and she was comlaining that our website was down. Took me awhile to discover what was wrong but in the end, I found that my apache.conf was also mysteriously overwritten as per amplisys' post (same entries). I copied a working backup in order to get the site running again. This is with 3.2.1 build 1231 (see the rest of my sig for my unit and its drives). The last log entries also showed a failure in scheduled remote replication (which seemed to be working fine when I had first run them after flashing build 1231).

The log files were full of apache relaunch process failed errors that started at, would you believe it, 0430hrs! Is there something that the TS639 does at that time? If so, somethings really wrong here. I'm starting to get disappointed with all these bugs (please see my other posts backup problem and timemachine) with recent firmware releases. It seems like things started going downhill with 3.2.0.

Please PM me if your tech support would like to take a look around insider my setup.

The Web server is restarted by cron at 04:30:
/mnt/HDA_ROOT/.config/crontab wrote: m h dom m dow cmd
...
30 4 * * * /etc/init.d/Qthttpd.sh restart 1>>/dev/null 2>>/dev/null
Side effects? None seen yet - but there is one hour to go, and I need some sleep...

I actually solved the issue myself. The .config directory of apache, there were several apache.conf.* files.

The actual apache.conf seemed to be containing other type of data, starting with:
[Qdownload]
Used Size = 23972
Directory Count = 8
File Count = 7
[Qrecordings]
Used Size = 4096
Directory Count = 0
File Count = 0
[Qusb]
Used Size = 4096
Directory Count = 0
File Count = 0
...

I am not sure what configuration data that is, but I assume QNAP devs will.

Another file was the apache.conf.bak file, which was an actual config file for apache, though it contained references to directories of daily builds, such as /root/daily_build/0627branch/Model/TS-509/../../NasMgmt/HTTP/apache_install_tmp/htdocs
This means this file did not work either.

There was also an apache.conf.tmp which was the correct config file and after copying that to apache.conf and a restart everything worked again.

I hope this helps.

My very new TS 459 Pro has the same problem. at +/- 4:30 log messages "2010-01-24 04:31:07 System 127.0.0.1 localhost Re-launch process [apache]."starting te appear. Also with the new 3.2.1 Build 1231T firmware.

I am reading about a solution of copying a config file. How can i copy the file? what tool can i use for that. In de 'Web filemanager' it seems not possible to get around the shares. And beacuse of the apache not working, it's not possible to use AjaXplorer.

Any help would be appreciated beacuse my web service is not working now (big problem).

Martin.

You can use WINSCP to connect to your Nas and browse all directories.
It use SSH so it works even with Web Server down.

This is the SOLUTION!!!

From below link
http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=23644

1. Download and install winscp
http://winscp.net/

2. connet to your Qnap

3. go to below directory and download 'apache.conf' to your PC
/etc/default_config/

4. go to below directory and upload(overwrite) 'apache.conf' from your PC
/etc/config/apache/

Hi There.

I have exactly the same problem - but seems as if I can't get out of this state again.

I've tried to follow directions on this thread - but with no luck, I still get the alerts in my system log approx. every 4th minute :-(.

Can we expect a fix from Support/RD and if not how does I get rid of this problem?
