index_default.html in "home folder"

What is the purpose of the "index_default.html" that gets placed in every users "home" directory?

I note that none of the default Apache configuration files include a "UserDir" directive, so I'm at a loss to understand what this file is, and why it is there. I did a Google search for "index_default.html", but it wasn't very helpful. I similarly searched for it on apache.org with no results returned.

This seems to be a local QNAP feature, yet I can find no documentation about it.

It's not ... it's just in the admin homes - any other user can't login to the shell, and the /home resp. /share/homes/[username] created automatically don't get this file populated.

Never seen this page - at leat not for years - on a "real" NAS.

Beyond - without checking - I supect this file is copied to the NAS shell login folder by default, ie. by a standard login script. As per QNAP design admin is the only user with access, that is not a big problem. For users modding the NAS beyond the supported level ... figure.
