phpBB with domain setup issues

Postby chrisuk76 » Tue Aug 07, 2012 7:45 am

Hi all

This is my first time doing this, so may be something simple I have missed. I am trying to setup and host my own phpBB, I followed the instructions here http://docs.qnap.com/nas/en/index.html? ... on_qna.htm

The problem I have is when I put in my domain I only get the Web Server Setup Guide page with the Green House, which when I click, takes me to the Qnap login page. The only additional part I did was create my domain and inserted it into the "advanced settings page" on the phpBB setup page.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

a) what dodmain are you talking of here now - does the NAS have to serve an additional domain, and oyu have set-up a virtual server for the forum?

The phpBB packet - was it unpacked ot the Web resp. Qweb folder, or is there a subdirectory with the phpBB code? The description is based on the probably wrong) assumption the distribution does not include a subfolder in the archive. Depends now on how you want to use it - with a virtual path (ie. http://yourname.mycloudnass.com/forum/ ) direct in the main Web server root http://yourname.mycloudnass.com/ ) or as a virtual server for a domain yoou have DNS hosted externally (ie. http://forum.yourdomain.com/ ).

RIght, a bit more info to add, this is the first venture I have made into using the Qnap as any sort of web server. I registered my IP address against a free domain (.tk), so now when I type in my web address it goes to the "web server setup guide" with the green house, when I click on that I get to the Qnap login page. As far as I am aware I have not set-up a virtual server.

The phpBB was unpacked into my nas/web/phpbb3

If I put my the Qnap IP with the /phpbb3, I can get to the main board index view.

So just to recap what I am trying to do, is when somone types in my website address mywebsite.tk, I want it to go to the forum register board.

Please excuse me if I am talking rubbish or trying to achieve the impossible and thanks for the help :)

If the forum will be the only one website what you're planning to host, than simply move the files to the root (Web) folder.

If you're planning to host multiple websites from one QNAP device, take a look at:
What is virtual host
How to configure at the QNAP admin interface
QNAP TS-459Pro II 4x2TB in RAID5 3GB RAM | Trunking: IEEE 802.3ad on Cisco SLM2008 | protected by APC SMT1500I with AP9631
QPKGs: Optware, JRE, Python, CrashPlan, DropBox, Squid, Transmission | Router: Linksys E3000 | FW: DD-WRT v24-sp2 mega
