Don't use WD Green disks in a NAS!

WD30EZRX is part of the WD Green product line and is by WD specifically not recommended for NAS use: WD Caviar Green Hard Drives are not recommended for and are not warranted for use in RAID environments utilizing Enterprise HBAs and/or expanders and in multi-bay chassis, as they are not designed for, nor tested in, these specific types of RAID applications.

Add that Qnap also does not recommend using them. Other WD Green models have given an extremely bad user experience as reported in extremely long and tragic threads here in the forum.

The Hitachi and Seagate models you mention are the very good but expensive enterprise models recommended for RAID use. WD have no comparable 3 TB enterprise model.

The closest comparable disk for the desktop model WD30EZRX that is recommended by Qnap would be the Hitachi HDS5C3030ALA630. Hitachi HDS723030ALA640, Seagate ST33000651AS and ST3000DM001 are other 3 TB desktop disks mentioned on the Qnap disk compatibility list.

I am using these drives in Raid 0 on my 459ProII. Its a lightly used NAS and I feel that even though the drives are not structured for serious RAID use I feel the likelyhood of two drives going out at the same time are slim and the cost means that its easy to replace one if it does.
