412 NAS has reverted to Initialisation

Postby ronniepayne » Tue Jul 31, 2012 5:02 am

I have a QNAP 412 with a single 3TB drive installed which has been working for the last 6months as the family media drive with no problems. It has now lost it's memory and wants to re initialise, which means formating the disc which will mean losing all the media (over 2 TB ) . Is there a way to revert back to the initial settings before the NAS crashed in order to save my media data? I have tried connecting the hard drive to my windows PC inorder to move the data before allowing the initialisation process but it is not recognised by windows(7).

Windows will not recognize the format (ext3/4) of internal QNAP NAS drives. The drive could be bad - I hope you have backups if the data is valuable and can't be recreated. Open a ticket with QNAP so they can remote into your system and hopefully fix the configuration so it recognizes the drive if it is good.

Thanks Don, what is a 'ticket', you refer to. Is it a request to Qnap? and how is this done?
