I hope somebody can help me setting up remote access for my QNAP NAS. I think I've none most of it correctly, but I still can't access the NAS from outside my home network. Here's the technical details:
My QNAP NAS Turbo TS-110 (Version 3.7.1 build 20120615) is connected with a LAN-cable to my Linksys router WRT54GL (firmware: v4.30.15). The router is connected to a connection-box from my ISP, which provides me with a dynamic WAN IP address 87.72.XX.XXX (however, it doesn't seem to change that often). Furthermore, the router has assigned a number of LAN IP addresses: 192.168.1.1 to the router itself and 192.168.1.104 to the QNAP NAS.
First of all, I created an account at www.dyndns.com for DDNS refeering to my WAN IP address (87.72.XX.XXX). I added the account information to the DDNS setup of the router as well as of the QNAP. Both devices reported that DDNS was successfully updated. In the QNAP Admin I've enabled SSL connection at port 443, set the Security Level at low (allow all connections). To make sure that my QNAP NAS is alwas assigned with the LAN IP 192.168.1.104 I set TCP/IP settings to a static IP address, instead of a dynamic automatically assigned via DHCP. I also entered primary and secondary DNS to 192.168.1.1. Unfortunately, the settings regarding TCP/IP and DNS failed the DDNS connection to www.dyndns.com, so I went back to using automatical TCP/IP and DNS (DHCP). It is not possible to assign a static LAN IP address in the Linksys admin according to the users' manual. However, it seems that the LAN IP of the QNAP NAS isn't changed that often (if ever).
In the router Admin I've enabled firewall protection, but disabled "Block anonymous internet requests" and "Filter Internet NAT Redicrection". In port range forwarding, I've entered the following ports: 8080 (admin), 873 (rsync), 8081 (SWS), 443 (SSL), 13131 (telnet), 20-22 (FTP, SSH), 1723 (PPTP) and 1194 (openVPN). All ports are forwarding to the NAS at 192.168.1.104. Last but not least, I've enabled Remote Management and HTTPS. UPnP is enabled, but QNAP NAS was not able to registrer any UPnP compatible routers on the network, thus Auto Router Configuration did not work.
When I enter my DDNS address in the internet browser (at home) I'm directed to the QNAP NAS menu (and login). But, it doesn't work from outside my home network. I've tried to enter the address with/without "http(s)://" and also tried to add ":8080", but no access can be established. What have I done wrong??
I hope somebody can help me
