Spin Down Ext4 4Tb disks with QTS 4.1.1

after some more investigation, i decided to create a new thread for this, since i believe this is somewhat related to ext4 with QTS 4.1
i have 2 QNAP's, bought a HS-251 to replace my older TS-259Pro+
but since i still have the TS-259, i decided to promote that to a test system
for both systems all extra's are disabled
so current configuration is:
1 HS-251 2 4Tb QTS 4.1.1 formatted in ext4 there is 2Tb ocupied on the system
1 TS 259Pro+ 2 4Tb downgraded to 3.8.4 Build 20130816, did a factory reset formatted to Ext3

for both units i use 2 scripts to check activity, one is the well known blkdevMonitor,sh
the other is a script to monitor activity, and force to sleep is idle for more than x minutes, and write to logs
it will write stuff like below to logs if set to autorun
21-11 06:13:18 sda awoke after 12 m of sleep (S/A=12/1)
i added sone extra echo's in the script so it output some more data like /sys/block/sdx/stat (nr blocks accessed for example)

now the HS251 doesn't goto sleep at all
always i see in blkdevMonitor output the following what is worrying me, and don't know what it is (well it is the raid subsystem, but what and why?)

always md1_raid1 and always the exact same block

the TS-259 is going to sleep nicely, needs some fine tuning, but it does goto sleep
i don't see this md1_raid1 process here at all

my next step will be to upgrade the TS-259 to QTS 4.1.1 and see if the firmware or EXT4 is the rootcause of my disks not sleeping
or maybe i'll just forget about raid1 and do a single disk with replication to disk2, since i have low faith it will work on the HS-251

Problem solved, using the following approach:
- Use blkdevMonitor script from QNAP wiki (http://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Find_out_whic ... m_spindown) to monitor the disk access
- regular access justified that the disk can not go into standy mode
- deactivate all services (ftp, dns, web server, ...), but keep ssh running to be able to connect => still disk accesses as before => not related to the services
- deinstall all Apps => no more disk accesses and disk go into standby => find the App causing the mess
- successive re-installation of apps until the disk accesses start again. In my case the App PostgreSQL - Beta caused the accesses.

I am having same problem here.
I can't understand why QNAP is not providing a mechanism to put the NAS to sleep after x minutes of IDLE.
Would you post your two scripts that you have mentioned here?
