TS-231: unwanted wakeup

Post by wahhh »

Hello,

I have a TS-231 and I set hard drive standby time to 30 min. I notice that the NAS sometimes wakeup itself. There is no computer in operation, and there is no entry in crontab to do any job at the moment.

I find following in /var/log/hal_daemon.log

Mon Mar 2 07:23:34 2015
hal_netlink(2020):get netlink msg type = 0,action = 52
Mon Mar 2 07:23:34 2015
hal_netlink(2020):get netlink msg type = 0,action = 52
Mon Mar 2 07:23:34 2015
pd_evt_func(1482):clear PD standby mode,enc_id = 0,port_id = 1
Mon Mar 2 07:23:34 2015
pd_evt_func(1486):clear ENC standby mode,enc_id = 0
Mon Mar 2 07:23:41 2015
pd_evt_func(1482):clear PD standby mode,enc_id = 0,port_id = 2
Mon Mar 2 08:00:59 2015
hal_hd_io_monitor(3650):set standby:enc_id = 0,port_id = 2
Mon Mar 2 08:01:00 2015
hal_hd_io_monitor(3650):set standby:enc_id = 0,port_id = 1
Mon Mar 2 08:01:00 2015
hal_hd_io_monitor(3663):set enc standby:enc_id = 0
Mon Mar 2 14:54:07 2015
hal_netlink(2020):get netlink msg type = 0,action = 52
Mon Mar 2 14:54:14 2015
hal_netlink(2020):get netlink msg type = 0,action = 52
Mon Mar 2 14:54:14 2015
pd_evt_func(1482):clear PD standby mode,enc_id = 0,port_id = 1
Mon Mar 2 14:54:14 2015
pd_evt_func(1486):clear ENC standby mode,enc_id = 0
Mon Mar 2 14:54:20 2015
pd_evt_func(1482):clear PD standby mode,enc_id = 0,port_id = 2
Mon Mar 2 15:25:12 2015
hal_hd_io_monitor(3650):set standby:enc_id = 0,port_id = 2
Mon Mar 2 15:25:13 2015
hal_hd_io_monitor(3650):set standby:enc_id = 0,port_id = 1
Mon Mar 2 15:25:13 2015
hal_hd_io_monitor(3663):set enc standby:enc_id = 0

It seems the NAS receives some PKT from eth port and decides to leave standby mode. But what is msg type=0?
Maybe I should get a hub and start to capture the PKT to the NAS......

According to
http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man7/netlink.7.html

"Netlink is used to transfer information between kernel and user-space processes...."

So maybe it is not triggered by a PKT from eth.

update:

With latest FW 4.1.3 the issue still exists.
I disabled all services and only enable Windows and Apple network, and I also disabled all "stations". I even tried to remove Ethernet cable from the NAS. But the NAS still wakes up several times per day. What can I check for it?

Please review QNAPedia article: Hard drives spindown issues

Please access your NAS via SSH, login as "admin" and run:

Code: Select all

cd /root
wget http://eu1.qnap.com/Storage/tsd/spindown/blkdevMonitor.zip
unzip blkdevMonitor.zip
chmod 700 /root/blkdevMonitor.sh
/root/blkdevMonitor.sh
#done
Please cut&paste the output of these commands to PasteBin.com, and then cut&paste the resulting URL back to this message thread so we can see it's output.

It generates about 2MB of output which exceeds the maximum message size of this Forum, which is why I respectfully ask you to post it to pastebin and then provide the URL to access that data.

Hi,

same issue here... very often I find the TS-231 with HD running without any demand use.

I have most of the features of the device turned off...

any more developments on this issue?

thanks,

same here. No idea why it is waking up. I did run that script and send it to support. Let's see if qnap can figure it out.
this is what wakes it up:

Code: Select all

Fri Feb 5 15:10:01 2016
hal_netlink(2079):get netlink msg type = 0,action = 52
Fri Feb 5 15:10:11 2016
pd_evt_func(1435):clear PD standby mode,enc_id = 0,port_id = 2
Fri Feb 5 15:10:11 2016
pd_evt_func(1439):clear ENC standby mode,enc_id = 0
Fri Feb 5 15:10:11 2016
hal_netlink(2079):get netlink msg type = 0,action = 52
Fri Feb 5 15:10:21 2016
pd_evt_func(1435):clear PD standby mode,enc_id = 0,port_id = 1
any idea what action 52 is?
