TS-212 spind down / standby NOT working

Postby chuongng » Wed Feb 23, 2011 8:56 pm

HI all,
I have a TS-212 ... but the spin down feature does not work. when I probe the resource, there is a process called "qWatcodogd: keeping alive every 5 seconds..." what is this? Is this process prevent HD from going standby or spin down? I don't have BT or Twonkie running. Just a standard NAS setting.

Any idea why? I would prefer to leave the NAS on 24/7 but would like the HD go standby when not used after 20 min or so. IF not, probably better to schedule turn ON/OFF but some people mention it's not good for HD, I'm not sure if this true as I do the same for my desktop PC and I never have a problem.

I hope Qnap have this fix if it's actually a problem with their firmware.

NOte: I also tried the script as suggested, the HD go into standby mode right the way as soon as I run it. So, what's going on here? It's going into standby when prompted, but not on its own as set in the admin page???

Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Chuong:

My TS-212 spin down works fine and "qWatcodogd: keeping alive every 5 seconds..." process is running too. I think you should look for another cause.
