[HELP] 859 Pro: SNMP on disks prevents idle spin down?

Postby Morgennebel » Mon May 21, 2012 10:30 pm

Hi there,

I have added my QNAP 859 Pro+ to my Cacti monitoring server and getting nice graphs on fan speed, memory details
and ethernet traffic.

However when I try to monitor disk temperatures of all eight disks the system will no longer spindle down in the night.

Is there any reason why disks need to rotate to measure the temperature?

Thanks, -MN

This is up to the disk vendors' HDD firmware I guess - if any read-out of data does need a spin-up.

What HDD make, model, and firmware?

Hi Schumaku,

thank you for the quick reply. I have 8 x Hitachi HUA723030ALA640 MKAO, each 2794.52 GB using firmware MKAOA5C0.
The QNAP itself runs firmware 3.6.1 Build 0302T.

Thanks, -MN
