[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] The file system is not clean

Post by chris2922 »

In "System Administration \ System Logs" I have the following error:

[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] The file system is not cleaned. It is suggested that you to run "check disk"

I have run the Test tools in "Disk Management \ Volume Management" and in "Disk Management \ HDD SMART".
Both tests complete and the status is "GOOD".

I then restart the NAS and get the same error in the log:
[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] The file system is not cleaned. It is suggested that you to run "check disk".

This seems to stop my Windows PC accessing the NAS. I usually use "START > Run" and enter the Server Name\Share Name, but this no longer works.

What has happened? How do i fix it?

Hi chris2922,

In Disk Management>Volume Management>Current Disk Volume Configuration : Logical Volumes, click 'CHECK NOW' button.

I have done the check - it slowly counted up to 100% and now says:

Volume
Mirroring Disk Volume: Drive 1 2
Total Size
915.82 GB
Free Size
42.60 GB
Status
Ready

The SYSTEM LOG says:

2010-05-19 21:40:27 System 127.0.0.1 localhost [Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] Examination completed.
2010-05-19 21:12:39 System 127.0.0.1 localhost [Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] Start examination.

I have not restarted the NAS. What should i do to confirm this has fixed the file system error?

Hi chris2922,

You can run complete SMART SCAN and Bad Blocks Scan again.

The Scans and Tests have not fixed my problem.

I noticed my Download Station had stopped downloading this morning so i checked the System Logs.

/share/Qdownload is not ready for Download Station.
[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] The file system is not cleaned. It is suggested that you to run "check disk".

In addition to this problem, i cannot access my QNAP using (Windows) START > RUN > [name of nas]\[share name].

I have run the tests again and the System Log says this:

HDD SMART: HDD 1 Quick Test started.
HDD SMART: HDD 1 Quick Test result: Completed without error.

[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] Start examination.
[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] Examination completed.

I have then gone to Power Management and RESTART.

The System Log now says this:

System was shut down on Mon May 24 12:19:39 BST 2010.
System started.

The Download Station has now started again, and i can access the NAS through 'START > RUN'.

Why does this keep happening? I cannot keep running checks on it all the time.

Less than 1 day later, it has failed again.

The NAS dissappeared from my network (other computers could not find it anymore) and the Download Station stopped downloading half way through a job.

The system log showed nothing after the "System started" entry from this mornings reboot. It had stopped logging infomation. As usual though, i was able to access the Web front end.

I did another reboot and the system log said this:

1)System was shut down on Mon May 24 22:58:33 BST 2010.
2)System started.
3)[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] Recovering journal.
4)[Mirror Disk Volume: Drive 1 2] The file system is not cleaned. It is suggested that you to run check disk".

So now i will have to run the Check tool to fix the file system - but then in another few hours it will fail again!

I cannot be around to patch this NAS back up every time it falls down. I need to know how to fix the underlying issue. Can someone help please?

Hi chris2922,

Look like the hard drive issue, do you run "Bad Blocks Scan" in each drives before?, you can click 'SCAN Now' on Disk>Volume management page.
The syslog message will show '[Drive 1] Start scanning bad blocks.'

Thank you for your help so far Tony.

From the System Log it appears the problem is:

/share/Qdownload is not ready for Download Station.

I do not know how to resolve this though.
I have dissabled the Download Station in 'Applications \ Download Station'.

All the checks and scan complete and no problems or Bad Blocks are reported in the System Log.

I have restarted the Server and enabled Download Station again.

No errors in the System Log yet, and the NAS seems to be behaving normally. This has happened before though, so i will check later and see what the Log says.

The discs are both identical SAMSUNG HD103UJ 1AA0 1 TB. Replacing them would be very costly - plus i have nowhere to backup that much data to. How am i going to resolve this problem?

I can rename any file no problem . I ran a disk check and it is all ok.
I can remove the files via telnet. this is driving me crazy.
I think I will just format the drives again

UPDATE I CAN delete file via web file manager. hmmmm
i will try another pc, same issue.
