[solved] nfs4 and ts 119P+

Postby no-thing » Sun Mar 20, 2011 3:01 am

hi,

is there a way to get nfs4 running on the ts 119p+ beside installing debian or so?

i've searched the modz etc. - but i found the debian solution only.

i'd rather added an app or so to the existing qnap os than installing a new os on the nas as it is already running in production.

i need nfs4 as we are having problems with openoffice files with nfs3 (file locking problem).

so maybe i've just not found the solution i'm looking for?

thanks for help,

NFSv4 is in the plan, and v3.4.x implements a good part of it already, why ever the nfsv4 implementation is not complete yet, so it can't be used yet.

Doubt you need nfsv4 - everyting to handle the locking on the NAS with nfsv3 (lockd, statd) is in place. When locking does not work with your client, check if nfslock is installed and started on your client.

Thanks for your response. Sounds great to me, that there is nfsv4 in sight.

the file locking in nfsv3 works fine - but not for openoffice files.

a quick google (most in german): http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&o ... le+locking

this shows, that there is an issue with oo and nfs.
I found an information that said, with nfs4 and oo the locking problem is gone.
that's why I'm searching for a nfsv4 solution on my ts 119p+.

nfslock on my client? how should this be installed? I've installed nfs-common - following the wiki on ubuntuuser.de (http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/NFS - in german).

I would like to know how nfslock can be installed on the client. maybe this is the solution im looking for??????

so please let me know how to install nfslock on my ubuntu system (10.10, 32 and 64bit).

thanks and best regards - almost from next door (freiburg)

hi again,

meanwhile I've installed the nfslock via ubuntu softwarecenter.

but - still the same error when accessing openoffice files.
they are not locked by any other user.
there are no .lockxxx files.
this is only with open office files.

any idea about the nfslock?
I've found the info to do the following:
#chkconfig nfslock
#service nfslock start

but the console output is:
unknown service
or
unrecognized service

any idea what to do???

thanks

after all it is working - without nfs4 but with nfs3

I could not find the nfslock for the client (ubuntu 10.10). I could find some hints, that I had to install nfs-utils.

But it seemed, that these utils where hided quite well.
After all I found the following ppa:
ppa:etienne-goyer-outlands

It seemed, that this is the place for the nfs-utils.
I did the following in the console:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:etienne-goyer-outlands/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get --reinstall install nfs-utils

I have no idea what this all does, but it helped (with one little step to go).
after the sudo add-... was finished, I said: no nfs-utils or something like that - grrr.
but after a system update (I don't know the english expression for "aktualisierungsverwaltung"
there was a nfs-common about to install. I let it happen - and surprise - the access to OpenOffice files via nfs workes fine.

I could repeat this on different installation. So now I know it works for 32bit and 64bit Ubuntu 10.10

Maybe this is of help for someone else.

thanks,
