Multimedia Station autorization TS-101 vs TS-109

Postby fsteenmeijer » Sun Sep 16, 2007 10:53 pm

I just bought a TS-101. I like to distribute foto's to different groups of people via Multimedia Station, but I cannot discover any autorisation mechanism on the TS-101 for webusers. Is this correct?

I studied the manual of TS-109 and there are referring to a autorisation mechanism, that doesn't seem to be present on a TS-101. Is it possible to only give access to autorized users to Multimedia Station on a TS? This also means that even Guest accounts are not allowed to browse through any pictures at all.

If this is indeed the case I problably upgrade to TS-109.

Regard,
Frits

I have the same problem on QNAP 201 : no right restriction on Qmultimedia web interface.
I find it amazing because qnap can manage right management, so why not on Qmultimedia ???

In our plan, we will add this feature in TS-100/TS-101/TS-201.
And we will have a beta version before next month.
Thanks for your feedback!
I am Kent. Nice to meet you!

I'm looking forward to the authorization aswell. My question is: i've just installed the latest firmware, released on the 26e of september. Authorization is still not present on qmultimedia, is it still coming?

Kind regards, Job

a happy ts-101 user.

QNAP please respond. Because if this is not fixed on the short term, I will trade in my TS-101 for another NAS.

Multimedia Section open to the world.

Postby Pancho » Thu Nov 08, 2007 5:59 pm

I have long been asking about this in emails to Shawn (QNap). I moved everything back to Public, which does have a password on it. I have a few images in Multimedia for test purposes. I have now disabled the Multimedia section and if I try to access it via the NAS opening page a message comes up asking if I want to enable it. However I can still read the Multimedia section from my usual file manager in XP. It is really there as I can move files about and open them; I have done a re-start. I too was pleased that the new firmware was going to fix this non-password problem but it has not done so. My solution is don't put anything in that section if you don't want the world to see it. It is still the same drive so does not take up any more space whatever section it is on.
QNap - please be honest. The TW-101 (500 gb drive) is a great product and I will not be changing it. The fact that you are still interested in a, now old, product, is worth a lot to those of us who have invested our money, technical understanding and trust in it. I have found QNap people helpful and interested in feedback. Some companies could not care less.

I agree, but I'm sure that QNAP will correct this bug very soon, because this is an obvious lack of security on there product, and they have anounced a solution for september (2 monthes ago now).
If they want to continue beeing serious, they DO NOT have the choice !

See my post on this topic http://forum.qnap.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=354.
I have decided not to wait, and ask QNAP to replace my TS-201 because of this problem.
