NMP-1000P wont play .iso and YouTube Support

Postby maytrees » Thu Jun 16, 2011 4:41 pm

I have not set up my TS-659 Pro II and all is working well except for two problems:

1. There is one DVD iso image that my NMP-1000P will not play. I've tried creating the iso with both AnyDVD and ImgBurn and I get the same result, I select it off the menu, and after a second, I get the list of isos available again.

2. When will support be provided to play YouTube files? I can see all the YouTube movies in the menus, but none of them play.

I am using firmware 1.1.3 (0525P) Otherwise, I'm pleased with my set-p

I guess something is wrong with the iso you created....I have a lot of iso's and they all play fine (DVD/HD). YouTube is another story....we're all waiting a long time to see YouTube working again...some people (including me) think this is a licence issue...Let's hope this will be fixed soon!

Edit: most iso's I've created with ImgBurn..
The solution to the most difficult "problem" is usually very simple.

Thanks for comment. There may be something strange about this DVD. What I will do is rip the DVD files to a directory on my hard drive and make an iso from that.

It is interesting that ImgBurn and AnyDVD created iso files that are exactly the same size.

Update 18 June 11: I ripped the DVD to my hard drive as folders, and then burnt an image of the folder structure and the iso played after that. I did notice that my iso from the folders was slightly smaller than the iso ripped off the DVD. Anyway, problem solved.

Is there any new firmware coming soon to allow the NMP-1000P to play YouTube videos?

I've now upgraded the firmware, but while doing so, the firmware on one USB kept hanging, so I used a different USB stick, and the firmware loaded ok.

What I have found is that playing YouTube videos is not reliable as the playback gets canceled midway in them. Could it be that the firmware cannot cope with buffering or does it fail when the buffer is empty.

Anyone else have similar problems?

No issues here with YouTube playback at all, including HD movies.

I've tried it again after a reboot, and still the YouTube videos stop playing after about a minute. I've checked the data flow monitor on my router, and it seems that the connection breaks and that buffering is taking place.

The HD Apple Movie Trailers play just fine, but YouTube doesn't.

Any comment QNAP?

Letting NMP-1000P playing YouTube videos for hours here wothout a single issues. Still launching each does (in my opinion) still take to much time - however this appears to be a Sigma Designs design issue.

Curious if you run the NMP-1000P with or without an internal disk.

With the internal drive here, we see caching the actually playing video like this one:

Update: just added my spare Hitachi 5K3000 2TB disk to the NMP, and the videos all stop after about a minute. I have a download speed of 14Mb, so bandwidth should not be a problem. The Apple movie trailers play fine.

I do not have a hard drive in mine, but I could add one. I'll do that and report back. Thanks for the tip.

Whether or not I have a hard drive in my NMP-1000P has no effect on it's failure to play YouTube videos without dropping the clip after about a minute.

I bought the NMP-1000P as a trial before I bought more for other rooms; looks like I'll have to search out another manufacturer who produces one that works properly.

More than strange. Played YouTube yesterday for several hours on both th NMP-1000P and the older NMP-1000 (with the firmware leaked on the RUssia support channel), including long ones like the "The Fox News/Google Debate (Full Length)" of 1h 53min fro example - easy to find on the global "feature" channel. This is not aimed to be any kind of political marketing by the way, somewhat funny to see how some politicans try to explain that the USA are different from Europe :D

Just in case it's a specific media issue, please provide information on the YouTube movies you tried to play.

Please tell us more on the how the NMP are connected to your home network, the Intenet connectivity, and other load on the Internet connectivity (ie. P2P) while playback.

Thank you for you offer. Before I post the information, I am going to double check my router isn't the problem by swapping it out with another I have. When I've finished these tests, I'll give those test results and the info.

Thanks, really appreciate your offer of support.

Re: NMP-1000P wont play .iso and YouTube Support

Postby maytrees » Thu Sep 29, 2011 7:10 pm

Thanks for the offer of help. The symptoms are all YouTube videos stop playback after around 55 seconds, though the Fox News one you mentioned dropped after 35 seconds. I have mainly tested this on my channel jpptubie and in particular the Robbie Williams video.

I get the same symptoms whether I use my Draytek Vigor 2820Vn router with static IP addresses on my network OR if I use a Thomson router with fully default setting using DHCP and only the NMP1000P connected to it.

I have a static IP internet connection and my router synchs at 2.09Mb upload and 16.09Mb download. Going to http://www.speedtest.net/ I get a 15ms ping and upload of 1.09Mb and a download of 12.19Mb.

Interestingly the HD Apple movies play perfectly on the NMP1000P even though I am sure they must use more bandwidth that YouTube.

My normal connection is: My Vigor's Gb port is connected to my Gb Switch with CAT6 and the TV and blu-ray player are connected to the 100Mb ports. The NMP-1000P is connected to the Gb switch.

There is little/no internet traffic taking place while I do these tests, and the Youtube videos play perfectly on my PC. All these tests have now been done with a hard drive in the NMP-1000P, though I first noted the problems without a hard drive in it.

Thanks, Any ideas?
