I'm also experiencing this TS-410. 4TB volume (3 disks in RAID 5), currently 490GB free space (which is 13.4%). Very frustrating if you have to have a spare 20% space all the time...

TS-410 here with 4x2tb in raid5.

Same problem as described: writing to the box is completely useless, and flush-9:0 is eating cpu.
This happens every time i drop below 500gb free. Delete stuff, get up to 1tb free, and everything works fine again.

Surely there has to be a solution to this?

I'll add my name to the list of people having this same problem.

TS-410 with 4x 2tb in JBOD and when i get to about 10% free space everything just slows down and seems to stop, very frustrating.

Is there any movement on this at all? My NAS is useless in this state!

I also want to add my name to the list.

TS-410, 4x 2TB HDD, RAID 5. Problem: Upload extreme slow, Samba and FTP timeout. Download/Downstream ok.
I also recognized flush 9:0 acting up (so I found this thread), but the more intense problem was that after trying to upload a file the smbd process remained and ate CPU and RAM. 2nd try to upload: 2 smbd processes, 3rd 3 and so on. Just a NAS reboot could kill them.

I tried your solution and it worked: when free disc space falls below 425 GB (7,7 %), upload is not possible anymore. If you delete some files, everthing is fine again. The problem is reproducible: the magical space limit of my NAS is about 425 GB free disc space.
The problem occured suddenly, so it could be a combination of "low" disc space AND firmware update, but that hasn't to be true.

I had a long discussion via e-mail with german QNAP-service, they really don't know something about this problem.

Another thing that attracts attention is that most (or all?) the people here having this problem are using a RAID array, most of them RAID 5. Some are using the same QNAP-type TS-410.

Hi,

after I needed to backup an external disk to my NAS and the NAS reached 91% fill grade this problem was there again. Completely useless.

As I don't believe QNAP is willing and able to solve this problem, I will object all QNAP purchases for our company. Also I will try to get my money back from Amazon. Maybe they are able to build pressure if enough people do the same.

Sad.

Hi Folks,

We found the issue,
- When used disk volume space is over 90% and the RAM space is less than 192 MB, the NAS write performance will drop to 6.96MB/s or less. The affected services include SAMBA, AFP, FTP, External Drive backup,.

To solve the issue, the methods are following.
1. Disable some none-used system services to get more RAM space. (especially for TS-x10/x12 NAS series)
2. Expand disk volume, e.g. from 2TB to 3TB.
3. Upgrade Linux kernel. This will be a big change on NAS firmware and it will take time to fine tune by QNAP.

Hi QNAPAlex,

can you acknowledge that this also fixes the problem where *all* writes to the disk happen in patterns (described below) which result in a write performance of only a few kb/s? And with *all* I mean not only SAMBA, FTP, etc but also a local cp command?

The pattern is as follows:

* write for 1-2 seconds with 10-20 MB/s
* read for 20-30 seconds with 1-2 MB/s from disk
* repeat

I notices this problem on my TS-419p as well. I realized it started occuring after i enabled the anti virus option a while back. Disabling this option made the NAS a lot faster and more responsive again.
