Hi all.

I know this subject has been opened already, but any news about that ?

I need to run PHP 5.3 on a TS509 Pro in order to have a program running...

Thank you.

3.6.3. will have it. Personally, I'm not convinced it will make it in time, tough - it's not in public Beta yet, too.

In the first pririty it's a NAS, not a competitive Web sever IMHO.

By the way, QNAP had 5.3 on the NAS just as it became available. Most PHP apps struggled abut the major update at that time - so they had to roll-back fast.

I agree it is not a competitive Web server and yes i am being a bit over dramatic. It is just that 5.3 has been out a very long time and there has been no visible movement to update the software. Mysql is also way behind too.

While it's obviously not a competitive webserver it is being positioned as a NAS with apache webserver and php capabilities.

And as far as those are concerned they are on the extremely meager implementation side.

- PHP version well out of support
- Apache not supporting basic functionality. It is impossible to run SSL certificates on virtual hosts without running into ubiquity issues for Firefox, regardless if you want to use it as an intra-/inter- or extranet server.
- MySQL out of date

We are soon going to see the other end of the spectrum which is that we won't be able to update some of the packages because developers simply stop using/supporting deprecated PHP versions (with good right).

and now it is the end of may for release. The email I just received from the Qnap support contact says that php 5.3.9 will be on firmware 3.6.3 which "should be available about the end of May."

At least we have a semi formal statement it is coming, so that's good news for a starter. Let's hope it will make it into 3.6.3 soon.

I really would love to see the proper vhost support (mod_)SSL support for Apache compiled in too, as I'm stuck with unusable SSL certificates at the moment.
