Brother 2030

with: TS 210, 3.5.0 Build 0816T

Very annoying: it used to run smoothly for months without any problems.
Now, the QNAP often does not detect the printer and I cannot print :-(
I have not idea what's reason. (Usual things already done: restarts (printer, NAS, both), upgrade firmware (printer, NAS).)
Anybody with an idea!

QNAP support was not very helpful: they say "hey, it's not on the list (Brother 2040 is however). We do not care."
I am not pleased at all with this attitude; QNAP does not stop to stress in their leaflets that their NAS can print to USB printers. But they do not state that there is a VERY restrictive compatibility list.
Not impressed with the whole thing...

UPDATE one month after my original posting:
I have upgradet to the latest firmware: 3.5.1 Build 1002T, and the problem SEEMS to be fixed and the printer has been working for several days without the usual moody refusals.... - I hope, the situation of the other people can similarly improve...
Btw, QNAP support? Never heard anything from them.

UPDATE 2: 6 weeks after original posting: printer invisible once again after DAYS & WEEKS of normal operations. Can't believe this. QNAP will not help. I am going to pray instead...

same here,

i have Canon Pixma MP630 and epson stylus photo 1400 and they don't work with my TS-419P+ with Mac Lion.
i asked qnap for some help and got the same answer. Basically they said if it's not on compatibility list, tough luck !!
Seriously disappointed with such an answer :(

Hi all
I have the same problem as almost everyone here in this thread, I reported it 2 times and since more than 10 months QNAP does not get it fixed. The "funny" part is, they want to remote connect on my desktop because they think I am to "stupid" to connect a printer as documented - btw: you also must be to "stupid" to connect a printer - welcome to the club.
Its absolutley not funny any more - they deliver a non working service - blame the user and are not able to fix it in a acceptable time line. I understand if they cover their a... with the compatibilty list, but almost everyone here in this thread is using a compatible printer and almost every one has the same problem - print job is send but not printed. And it worked in FW 3.9 - so lets ask who really is the stupid one?
But I have a little revenge hint for all of you: Tell your friends and colleague about this - and they wont buy a QNAP system. It works - and if you mention it to your company IT staff they how Qnap Support is working they may buy a product from a more customer orientated company.

This is not disappointing any more - its a 100% face loosing of QNAP support.

Hi,

I have a Canon MP630 and a QNAP TS-419P II. I was able to print with no problems from windows 7 just by finding the printer in explorer and adding it as my default printer.

Printing from OS X Lion isn't working, however. I've tried adding the printer found via bonjour, but it won't print - it just says 'printing' and nothing ever happens. Setting the printer up from the windows workgroup doesn't work either. I also tried setting it up using smb, smb://username:password@ip_address/printer, but that has the same problem. If I check in the cups admin page (localhost:631) on my mac I can see the print queue, and if I print a test page that does actually get printed! So, something is working - but even after the test page has printed successfully trying to print anything else still doesn't work.

I noticed in the cups logs on the qnap (/var/log/cups) there's the error "Unable to open listen socket for address :::631 - Address family not supported by protocol" after the qnap has booted up. Not sure if this is actually a problem though, since printing from Windows works fine.

Any ideas?

cheers,
Tony

Hello,

I reported my printer not working 4 months ago. It took me nearly 2 months to get QNAP to ackowledge there was a bug in the printer driver after 3.3.x version. After that, nearly two months there is a bug in the new versions for my printer, 4 emails to support asking for an update and zero answers. Is this the normal behaviour for QNAP solving customers´ issues or am I just unlucky.

In the last two months I have had no backup, as I have to stay in older versions to print and older versions do not support AFP in Lion.

Is not answering the standard bahavior I should expect?. Is 6 months the standard response time to solve a customer issue?. Would I get an answer after posting in the Forum instead of sending private, invisible emails for the community?.

I already had some hard disks bought to purchase another QNAP. It is being more and more difficult to do so, and it is starting to get tough to me not to start advising not to buy a NAS that, if problems arise, get this very poor support.

Let´s see.

Regards,

Iván.

Instructions on Installing HP LaserJet P1102

The printer has a built-in fake CD-ROM feature which prevents it from working correctly on non-Windows PCs. Once it is connected to a Windows PC, a CD-ROM appears containing Windows drivers. In order for HP LaserJet P1102 to work correctly on a non-win PC, you must disable this feature.

1.Connect the printer to a Windows PC. (Unfortunately you have to connect it to a Windows PC which is too bad.)
2.Insert the original driver CD. (The physical CD-ROM that ships with the product, NOT THIS FAKE CD-ROM).
3.Run SIUtility.exe or SIUtility64.exe from UTIL folder to disable this fake CD feature. (It's called “HP Smart Install”

Now, life becomes easier. Connect your HP LaserJet P1102 to your NAS.

Hello Iván and all you other person posting since months and getting no support from QNAP

I have made the same expierence - the QNAP support are a bunch of arrognant and unfortunaly pretty stupid people. First they were to stupid to get a printer running under Linux - then one day they made it (FW: 3.9) - must been a big suprise at their office. Due to this big sucess they decided to come back to their roots - with FW 4.x they were back on track - printing did not work again. And since then they do peform their Business as usual approach - be stupid and ignore customer needs. Look how long that threat is now - 23 pages - and no response.

Oh sorry QNAP- i totally missunderstood you - you are not stupid - we are - you are very smart - because now you have our money and why should you care about some stupid consumer customers on the other side of the globe.

I never will buy one of you products again . Thats all what I can do. And post such comments at the forum - because I know QNAP support would not read it and it helps a little bit to lower frustration every time i look at my nas device when I want to print.

I disagree. I contacted QNAP Support for a major boot problem and over the course of a couple of days was able to rectify the problem.

This also leads me to further information I hope helps anyone else stumbling upon this thread. If you dig back far enough you should see a post in this very thread indicating I could not get my Canon MP610 to work on the print server. In doing a full firmware flash and reinitialization of my hard-drives I am now able (and at the first time I might add as well) utilise the print server functionality of my NAS. My Canon MP610 works perfectly and I followed the exact same process as before. I now have print functionality from multiple Ethernet and Wireless clients all over the house. BRILLIANT!

Use the Contact QNAP Support function on the website. The guys there take no longer than a day to get back to you, and are willing to do whatever it takes to get your issue sorted. It was pointed out to me this forum is not an official support channel (which in the angry users defence isn't stated clearly enough in my opinion).

Canon Pixma ip4950 support is very hit and miss, sometimes works other times not.
Have not managed to get direct disc printing working at all.
Dissappointed and wish I'd thought to check whether QNAP print server with my current firmware (3.5.1 Build 1002T) was compatible with Canon's top of the line inkjet (lol!)
Perhaps fixed with a later release? If anyone knows, please let me know too. Thanks :D
