Qnap do advertise 24.4 MB write speed for the TS-210 (third row from the bottom) so you do actually have performance well above what's specified.

Possible explanations to the big discrepancy could be performance improvements made in later firmwares and/or your performance numbers being inaccurate.
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I read the comments from Crush. I also have a TS-419P II with Raid 5 and I tried everthing but never got a higher transfer rate than 39MB/s. So I guess its really the TS-419P II, which is the bottleneck in this case ... Very frustrating ...
