Is Synology's firmware based on a different Linux kernel to the one used by Qnap? If it's the same then it may have the same issues.
With the DS1010+ having more than 3 times the specified power consumption, 4 times the RAM, a much faster processor and being much more expensive a performance comparison between those models is totally irrelevant.
