We're not using Port trunking on our EC879 unit. We are using iSCSI service binding on NIC2. We since turned off iSCSI all together on the 879 and it has not crashed in over a month. Note, we are not placing much of a load on it either. We are just using NFS on it now with VMWare. However, we do need to be able to use iSCSI on it.

I had port trunking enabled. I will report back if this fixes my problem.

After seeing some peoples issues with port trunking and other various network related issues, it only seems logical that there is something wrong with either the NICs or the networking components of the firmware. Is there any update QNAP on resolving these issues?

No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

Hi guys,
TS-x79 3.5.3 has updated BIOS & LAN driver that should fix some issues.
Please update to the latest firmware version and check if your problem persists.

StarrCompany,

When you QNAP crashed after you installed the firmware update, did QNAP support contact you? If so, did they have anything to say about the issue?

Thanks,

Also upgraded FW to 3.5.3 build 0130T with BIOS AR21 on 06/02/12. Still having random shut down issue.

Noticed yet ANOTHER FW version released today 3.6.0 Build0210. Will wait to have confirmation it is stable before applying yet again.

To Sculp, QNAP has not got ESXi 5 certified yet. I had to downgrade my VMware host to ESX4.

To StarrCompany, check QNAP's HCL to see if your hard disks are compatible.

SC,

Any chance you had iSCSI enabled? If so, did you have it bound to a certain NIC? I am wondering if the problem is with the NIC(not the onboard integrated one),

Also, I'd like to point out that 879/1279 been out since Sept. of last year and it still hasn't been resolved. have they thought about stopping production until they have resolved this?
