Twonkey alternative ?

Postby Czb » Wed Feb 08, 2012 4:49 pm

Hello there..

I have a iPad, and would like to stream from my QNAP nas, but Twonky won't do the job (Because it can't sort by numbers, which I need)

Anyone there have good experience with another software ?

Thx

You could try disabling Twonky and installing Plex. I used both to stream to my BD player and have not noticed much difference as far as functionality, but the web UI that plex on QNAP provides could do for you. Worth to give it a shot.

AirVideo, search the forums, there is QPKG for it created by Christian.

Hi

Did you notice my response to your previous question on sort order in the folder container (here)? It is easily fixable, but it would involve installing the QPKG version of Twonky 6, then either editing the existing Twonky tree (editing the view-definitions.xml file by using Notepad++), or replacing the tree pack with one of my custom ones (all of which have the track and disk sort orders added to the folder view).

Just for folks interest, there's also a new kid on the block called 'MinimServer'(see here) but I've not yet tried it. When I get some time, I'm going to try out the PC version (to see how it looks) and if it's good, I'll try getting it to fly on my test Qnap (it will need JRE and a manual installation; there's no QPKG for it). I'd expect it might be very good (or if not, it likely soon will be) as the chap who wrote it is actively participating on the Linn forum and listening to all feedback from folks who are trying it (see here for the initial release posts and then here for the ones on the current version).

I'm the interim, I'd suggest you try the Twonky QPKG with one of the custom trees (probably the 'artist only' one for smaller music collections) as that would make Twonky behave in the way you wish it to; that's probably the easiest fix.

Bri

PS Sorry, but I've not had time to look at Plex, so I can't advise on whether (or not) that would be a better solution than changing the trees in Twonky.

Serviio is definitely the best server im using now
You can watch iPlayer, 4od, hulu and youtube. Now includes live streams!
If your TV or renderer does not support a video, serviio will transcode it on the fly for you!

QPKG for qnap is avalable here- viewforum.php?f=252

Enjoy!
