Supported usb soundcards

Postby Da_vinci » Wed Feb 15, 2012 6:03 pm

The new firmware has an interesting feature, you can turn your nas in a jukebox by plugging in an usb soundcard!
I was looking for supported devices and experiences but I could not find any info from Qnap unfortunately. I assume every usb stick that works under Linux 2.6 also works on Qnap?
Please share your experiences with different brands here!

A few are already on the Qnap compatibility list.

No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

It's not on the supported list but the Logitech Z515 wireless USB speaker works with Music Station (hooked to a 419PII).

I tried LogiLink UA0053 USB Soundcard and it worked fine to put in service.
I remarked some interruptions of the music but I don't know if it is caused by the usb sound card or the MusicStation.
When I want to change to another Track this takes some time (as well by doing the command via Qmobile as well directly via Musik Station)

I'd love to find some more resources on soundcards and qnap, it's a bit thin out there.

Here's an interesting thing I just found.

USB Audio 2.0 support was added in kernel 2.6.35. This is great news for high end dacs with usb but bad news for qnap users. As far as I can tell, QNAP is sitting on 2.6.33 and has been for a while.

I wonder if it would be a tall ask to get /include/linux/usb/audio-v2.h compiled for our qnaps. Failing that, are there modderz compiling custom kernels for qnap out here?

Any opinions?
