Remote Replication TS-410 Remote Host not found

Postby pepper85 » Thu Mar 29, 2012 3:49 am

Hello :)

I have a problem regarding the Remote Replication of a TS-410U to a TS-410. The TS-410U has to be replicated to an online NAS. So i created a RSYNC Replication Job on the TS-410. Even the Remote Host Testing is cancelled with an error "The remote host or the destination directory does not exist, or a port error is encountered.". The log-File says: "rsync: getaddrinfo: xxxxxx.xxxxxx.xx xxx: Name or service not knownrsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(179) [sender=3.0.7]".

I can ping the Remote Host from my local PC. The port (873) is correct and so is User Name and Password. Has anyone an idea? Do you need more data? I am totally new to this :)

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Have you ticked the setting Enable backup from a remote server to the local host on the Backup Server page?

No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!

What's in between the the two units? A LAN, private WAN, VPN or something else? Any filtering done in that path?

You say you can ping the remote host from your PC but what about another TCP based service like Web administration, SSH or Telnet? Does that work?

Do you have any Security level settings in place in either Qnap preventing access between the two units?

When asking for help it is always good to include the exact Qnap firmware version used.

The second unit is a hosted NAS, we connect through the internet to it. There is no filtering done.

Web administration does work.

Security level settings preventing access are not in place.

The Firmware-Version of the remote NAS is: 3.3.2 Build 0819T
The Firmware-Version of the local NAS is: 3.6.0 Build 0210T

This doesn't make sense. The RR-job should be created at the source (TS-410U according to the first sentence). The destination (TS-410?) should have the setting Enable backup from a remote server to the local host on the Backup Server page?. Have you got them mixed up in some way?

Other than that the only idea I have would be to try if an update of the ancient 3.3.2 firmware could improve things. I don't wan't to scan through all the release notes since then but I wouldn't be surprised if there have been some fix to Remote Replication in 17 releases.

Sorry for the long answer time. We had a couple of Problems regarding the Firmwareupdate as this NAs was outsourced. In the end, wrong DNS settings were made -.-

Thank you for your time and effort! :)
