:2e* and .AppleDouble files when using AFP

Questions about using NAS on Mac OS.

The problem is also that all these extra files and folders cause the backup to an external drive to fail or give warnings. It complains about invalid filenames and foldernames. Strange, because it does let the OSX client create these files on the QNAP, but the QNAP itself is not able to copy these files to the external drive. I have to create all kinds of filters to skip these files. Unfortunately, you can't do this for folders so it still gives the warnings.

We are a new QNAP user TS-459pro II. Finally left LaCie after many replacements within 2 years.
Anyway, we are having this same problem and wondering if anyone has come up with a solution. We connect with 4 MACs and 4 PCs. Only one MAC seems to generate the files.

Anyone found a solution to this? I'm concerned about not getting an accurate backup due to these warnings and skip nessage

Drop AFP and SMB and use NFS instead! Heres how:

Enable NFS Service under Network Services and make sure to set the proper rights.

Then use this guide to automount NFS shares every time you start your Mac:

It rocks here. Just copied 400 mb in under 10 sek.

Try it out!

Thanks I'll give it a try. Seems a lot better since I switched them all to SAMBA.
Any idea on how to delete those peskie AppleDouble and :2e files that already exist? Can't see them on the NAS even from a pure Linux laptop.

This thread is opened since a long time ago and the pb is still not solved.
Like someone else in this discussion I also noticed few pb when I try to remove files or folders on AFP shared partition.
I had also a concern with an applications which does not handle correctly these weird :2e... files. These are not considered as hidden files when they should be. And we can't blame the app.

Is there a plan somewhere to fix it? To QNAP support, what is the status?

Do we have to mount Samba or NFS partition on our Mac ?? (both are not perfect on Mac...).

:(

Hi QNap team,

Is there any chance to have at least a clear view on :
- what is causing this problem with AFP?
- what is the best solution to avoid these stupid files while there's no firmware fix?
- in which firmware release we'll can expect a fix?

Thanks
Pat

I was told by QNAP that the problem in my case (and how it affected daily operation) was that my external drive didn't recoginize the file. No mention of how to prevent or delete in the first place.

I'm also curious on a update on this. My issue is more from a QNAP to Amazon S3 replication process as it makes it look like a mess in the Amazon AWS portal.

No solution for the hidden files created? With Mac the hidden files are created only with AFP or also with SAMBA?

Inmy case - only when using AFP. We are now using Samba. Not right because Qnap advertises it supports MAC

We hope in future firmware update! Pros and cons using SAMBA instead o AFP? Transfer speed and others things?
