I cannot activate my Download Station

Postby pouryas » Thu May 10, 2012 7:09 pm

Hello

I bought TS 210 and I have the latest firmware, However when I click on download station it says :

"Note: To use this function, please upgrade the system firmware with the image file enclosed in the product CD or download the latest system firmware."

I have checked twice and my firmware is the latest. What is going wrong ?

Checking is not enough - you have to do as advised and really upgrade, insatll again, or re-install the firmware - of course using the latest firmware available from the www.qnap.com Downlod section. Best using the only verbose process available as shown here: http://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Manually_Updating_Firmware

I'm on mac os and im new to this os and not sure how to work with telnet. are there any tutorial on how to connect to server by Telnet. Is this normal though? I assumed that updating the firmware automatically would do the trick!

First ensure the ssh is enabled on your NAS (Home >> Network Services >> Telnet/SSH).

On OS X, open the Terminal app, and do
$ ssh admin@[NAS-IP-address]
_Password: .....

On Windows, grab and install PuTTY, create a new ssh connection, and login as admin.

Both will lead you to the NAS Linux shell prompt# (with the current directory in sharp barckets [~]), ready to enter the commands:

[~] #

Was this a first-time intallation of the TS-210?

And why is it that it only does it for Download Station, Music Station, Photo Station and Multimedia Station ?? The rest of applications are fine

Because of these apps are intalled in a dedicated storage area (pr partition), which was aparently not corrrectly installed and/or updated.

Yeah make sense now. I did download the latest firmware and upgrade the system one more time but the same problem exist. When I go home from work I will try manual installation of firmware and I hope that solve the problem

Convinced you'll handle that 8) Capture the (copy paste the text) output in case it does not end similar to the example in the Wiki.

Copy it to the Public shaed folder on the NAS...

Alternatively, change the default directory to the Public share; download it direct to the NAS from the distribution link; unzip, and check the integrity (compare with the Release Notes) - for the TS-210 v3.6.1 0302:

Hey thanks, I have fixed the problem. However it has nothing to do with the firmware. Simply I had to configure my hard drive before being able to use all those features. Silly i know!

One thing though, I wanna know whether there is better bt client for QNAP TS210 series ? Something like UTorrent. At the moment I am downloading 4 files and my download speed for all of them together is around 400Kb/s. Though usually when i download with utorrent I go to 1.5 - 2 MB/s.

So I want to know if there are other clients and if there are, do they perform significantly better than native client ?

cheers

Ok Just realised that there are other clients available. If I go for transmission would I see difference in speed ? At the moment none of my downloads go above 200 Kb/s !!

Probably because you have the Maximum upload rate per torrent set very low (like 20).

There is a 1:10 ratio limitation between the Maximum upload rate per torrent option and the download performance. Configure the Maximum upload rate per torrent option to 0 (unlimited) and limit your upload rate with the Global maximum upload rate option instead (60-80 % of your internet upload is often a good choice).
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!
