Backup - External Drive - Create folder

Postby comperio.aslak » Wed May 16, 2012 9:26 pm

Hi

I'm setting up a backup solution where I rotate the USB drives and move them off site.
Is it possible to have QNAP create the folder on the external drive if it does not exist?

PersonallyI think it is a bad idea. What if you had the wrong drive connected? Ensuring that the destination exists is a check to ensure the correct drive is connected.

Well, it could be an optional option.

It would in my opinion be a bad thing to complicate the backup feature with such an option, when creating the folders manually is a simple one time job on each disk. How many disks do you have rotating, several hundred?

If there are many disks and/or many folders you could simply create the folder structure somewhere else and drag/drop it on each of the disks (with Windows File Manager for example, if limited to the NAS).
No, RAID has never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups you will eventually lose data!
