Hi mate

On your qnap device enable backup server.
http://docs.qnap.com/nas/en/backup_server.htm

On your freenas box create an rsync jobb and point to the qnap dns or ip adress. Set the same user that you have on your backup server.
Module listing will likely not work. The jobb will be able to run anyways. Any share created on your qnap device will have a rsync module with the same name.
You can use ex "/Public" as destination when you setup the jobb from your freenas box.

Cheers.

not working

I use Freenas 0.7.2.
doc for 8.0 http://www.freenas.org/images/resources ... _715722159

rsync QNAP -> FreeNas - working (to test)
rsync FreeNas -> QNAP not working.

client rsync config (freenas)
path - /mnt/wd/income/111/
remote host - 192.168.0.202
remote module name - temp

config qnap
create share - temp

after clicking on the button to perform now on Freenas - gives log
Start of remote RSYNC synchronization from temp on 192.168.0.202 to /mnt/wd/income/111/
End of remote RSYNC synchronization from temp on 192.168.0.202 to /mnt/wd/income/111/
but does not copy

Have you enable the backup server as i told you?
Have you enabled "Allow remote rsync server to backup data to nas"

It is very mutch doable.

hi.
checked over the weekend server rsync qnap
windows (cwrsync.exe) -> qnap server (successfully!)
windows (cwrsync.exe) -> freenas server (successfully!)

freenas client --- xx->> qnap server (not working)
qnap client ----->> freenas server (working)

where to dig? where I can find a deep log?
config
1.rar

ps. Unfortunately only 2 files I can upload. therefore created the archive

log on Freenas client rsync

What account are you using from freenas to qnap then?

You need to have eighter the rsync user account you set in the backup server or an admin account on the qnap box set on your freenas.

Hi Zirex,

Sorry to dig up an old post, but I couldn't seem to find anyone else trying to rsync FreeNAS -> QNap in these threads.

Did you manage to resolve your issue? If so, hope you can share with me. I am stumped with the exact same problem (set all the usernames, etc. to rsync and similar passwords for the QNap and FreeNAS Rsync Local) but the FreeNAS rsync logs tell me there was an "auth error" when I tried to sync my stuff from the FreeNAS to the Multimedia folder on the QNap.

Am using FreeNAS 0.7.2 and a QNap TS-419P+, btw. Thanks in advance.

Me too.

Again sorry to bump an old post but did either of you find a solution to this problem. I am getting the same thing trying to replicate FreeNAS8 -> QNAPTS219 P11. Have set all the user names and passwords the same on Freenas and QNap boxes but seeing the error:

May 22 00:19:01 freenas rsync: Password: @ERROR: auth failed on module Public
May 22 00:19:01 freenas rsync: rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1517) [sender=3.0.8]

Hope you can help.

Cheers,
Chris.

Update.

Managed to get FreeNAS 8.04 to push Rsync to QNAP TS219P11.

I had created a FreeNAS user account mistakenly presumed that the FreeNAS box would supply the password that account to the QNAP Rsync server.

It turns out however that FreeNAS 8.04 has no option to specify a password for the Rsync user.
https://support.freenas.org/ticket/395

Now, there is a workaround whereby you can use SSH tools to create a file on the FreeNAS box containing the Rsysnc user password and refrence the file from the Rsync GUI. The following two links describe how:
http://forums.freenas.org/archive/index.php/t-5025.html
http://forums.freenas.org/archive/index.php/t-5505.html

Rsysnc Docs:
http://www.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync.html

Further workaround:
Since I only want to use Rsync to do a one time sync I figured I would try setting the Rsync user on the QNAP device with a blank password. Well QNAP device won't let you enter a blank password so I just hit the space bar once. Guess what, Rsync worked.

Hope this helps someone.
