Configure SMTP server

Post by dippie »

I've looked through the forums and it seems that no one has had a SMTP configuraqtion problem with 1and1 so hopefully this is an easy one.

Im trying to set up the notification to go to a 1and1 email account. I have a domain registed with 1and1 and use their webmail service for the email accounts. I try to set the configuration settings to those that I use in my smart phone ie;

SMTP Server: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
Port number: 25
Sender: David
SMTP authentication enabled
then password and username as in my webmail login

All I get when I send an alert notification test email is "The system can not sent the test email. Please check your settings" I've double and triple checked the settings.

Any clues?

Put your email address as 'Sender' as well as port 587 (or combination of both)

To configure the smtp server to get email notifications for hotmail;

smtp server: smtp.live.com
port number: 587
sender: your hotmail address
enable smtp authentication
user name: your hotmail address
password: your hotmail password
Use SSL/ TLS secure connection
protocol type: TLS

This worked for us, hope this helps others, this took a bit of time to work out!

... another fantastic show at how useless this community seems to be. I really hope that was a half attempt at a joke :/
