Yes alway on would be nice. Maybe with toggle Display Info and the Option to turn off on specific time.

+1

I'd like to see an option for "LCD visible time" (or some such thing) - maybe in seconds. If seconds=0 then LCD is always on.

And definitely rotating messages including temps would be very useful

This is my second visit to this forum, and this is exactly the reason for my second visit, to see if there is any way to keep the LCD display active. So I had to join up to add my request for this feature to be enable ASAP, I rather like the nice blue coloured LCD, and would really like to be able to have it left on.

There is a 'clunky' way of solving this problem. It requires a script to fire off the 'lcd_tool -o' function every 5 seconds. (lcd_tool disables the display after 8 or 9 sec or so)

You can find a howto, here;

Hi Forkless, thanks for sharing that, personally I am going to wait until its enable in the firmware. Since the LCD wouldn't use very much power at all, and considering the low power consumption of the NAS anyway, I would of though there would of been an option somewhere to leave it on or off, its definitely not a deal breaker for it to be left on surely.

I also would of expected to see it in this latest firmware release (3.7) after all the comments in this thread, what are they waiting for, 20 or more pages of requests before adding it, because that's not going to happen.

I too would like this feature

Believe it or not I have just upgraded from a Terastation Live Model (4 years old more or less to the day) and I chose this Qnap 419P II over the competing synology more or less because the Synology didn't have an LCD. The synology was £100 cheaper too....so c'mon make me feel good about that extra £100 I spent ;-)

The sneak in me suspects that the LCDs might not have the kind of life span that support ALWAYS ON? Don't really see the point in having them if they're not on constantly.

So please add it in guys!!!

I prefer it to be part of the f/w as well, I really don't like running trivial scripts triggering LCD modules.

Regarding the lifespan, if it is a regular LED lit LCD panel it should last anywhere from 60 to 100k hrs (7-11 years or so). Having said that it can vary on the quality of the component used. So I can imagine if they had a component that would last 7 years or so, I would see why the option isn't there since the economical life-span of a NAS borders that.

But yes, I wouldn't mind having the option with a disclaimer.

I wouldn't mind some feedback from QNAPJason as to the current status of this is feature. I really don't know whats involved in getting this feature enabled, but surely it wouldn't be that hard.
