TS-239 Pro II+ SNMPd has segmentation fault

Postby jengel » Sat Apr 21, 2012 6:23 pm

Hi all,

since I have not been able to find a solution for my problem so far, I decided to post it here:
I just got a new TS-239 Pro II+ and upgraded it to the latest available firmware (3.6.1 0302T). However, I am unable to get snmp up and running. Logging into the NAS via ssh and trying to run snmpd manually I discovered that it throws a segmentation all the times. Is there a way to debug the problem?
By the way: Firmware 3.5.2 (1126T) does not show the same issue, here snmpd works ok.

Thanks a lot for your help.
Best regards,
Johannes

Yes - not the first post (can't find it on the fly) - on 3.6.1 x86 snmpd does segfault on start

[~] # /etc/init.d/snmp start
Starting snmp agent:
/etc/init.d/snmp: line 56: 20788 Segmentation fault $SNMPD -c /etc/config/snmpd.conf -p ${PORT_NO}

The new firmware 3.7 still has the same error. No reaction from QNap yet is a bit worrying for me...

Try this:

[~] # /etc/init.d/snmp stop
[~] # /usr/local/bin/snmpd -c /etc/config/snmpd.conf -p 161 -DTOKEN
...

Following a suggestion of the Skype hotline I disabled OpenVPN and without that it works.

With OpenVPN enabled the Debug option gives
Code: Select all
No log handling enabled - turning on stderr logging
registered debug token TOKEN, 1
error on subcontainer 'ia_index' insert (-1)
error on subcontainer 'ia_index' insert (-1)
error on subcontainer 'ia_index' insert (-1)
Segmentation fault

Ha, that explains why it's segfaulting on my TS-419PII, too...

Have same problem SNMPD + VPN (not OpenVPN):

[/etc/init.d] # /usr/local/bin/snmpd -c /etc/config/snmpd.conf -p 161 -DTOKEN
No log handling enabled - turning on stderr logging
registered debug token TOKEN, 1
error on subcontainer 'ia_index' insert (-1)
could not open /proc/net/if_inet6
Segmentation fault

Hmm, what happens when you disable IPv6?
QNAP, why is your homework still not done?

No IPv6 configured here - just the QNAP supplied VPNs. Bumm....

Meh. Well, it is pretty much useless anyway. Tried to play with cacti, huge PITA due to the retarded SNMP implemention on QNAP, tried some other things and mostly the only result has been a "SNMP DoS" warning landing in my mailbox.
